Bowl Trimmer Tips and Tricks

I finally broke and got a bowl trimmer after years of hand trimming my hands and wrists can no longer handle it.

The time it has saved me is incredible but the quality hasn't been quite there for me. I feel I will need to do a light hand trim regardless.

Hoping for some tips if anyone has any to get a closer cleaner trim.

Using a 19" bowl trimmer with serrated blade for dry trimming. Turning both ways about 10-15 turns.

I know I won't get the same as hand trim but hoping someone with experience has some.suggestions.

I do mine wet right after harvesting and then use a drying rack. Also a 19" bowl.

You can see several leaves a hand trimmer would probably have plucked still attached, but I like the quality as a whole. I found dry trimming beat the buds up a little more, and left leaf shards in some of them.

I also wet trim. I have the smaller 13" trimmer. I am the world's slowest trimmer and may still be, but this saves me sooooo much time. As I empty the grate, I inspect and toss the buds on a cookie sheet. If they need a quick touch up, I hit em with the scissors.

My dad also has developed hand & wrist issues to where hand trimming is a no-go. He ponied up for a Trim Bag and the finished buds look good. He has to flick an occasional leaf off with a scissor blade, but tumbling a bag of buds for a couple mins vs fucking up his wrists for hours is a priceless tradeoff

Personally, I've always preferred the overall look of dried flowers. Dry trimming is also easier IMO, the trimming implements don't get so caked with wet resin

I have the advertised 19" electric bowl trimmer that is actually 16" measured. The trick for me is turning the bowl on so it's moving slowly, then adding the buds for a steady roll. That way there is no static coefficient of friction where the bud sticks to the bowls open base under which the knives are. So the buds are always rolling and there's less shearing on the buds than from starting and stopping. When I stopped/started I got a more choppy looking trim.

Anyway I love mine and get a nice product.

I like my machine trimmed bud better than my hand trimming. I also have an electric version and wouldn't be without one now.

I trim fresh bud. My one experience with dried launched a lot of trichomes into the air and on the floor. My unit lacks a lid that could control that but trimming wet eliminates the problem too

I have an upright motorized TrimPro machine and thank god I do for my outdoor harvests. I admit the buds don’t look the frostiest when they come out but it saves my wrists and hours of time. I gotta take down my outdoor Slurricane today and looking well past 1300g wet, and that machine helps me finish everything in roughly 3-4 hours on my own. From cutting the plants down, cutting in buds, washing and then TrimPro. Needed it after my first outdoor attempt of a Fruity Pebbles took over 10hrs with 3-5 people working in and out of rotation. Plus I had wrist surgery done 4 yers ago and the machine saves my hands/wrists from hurting. Never had the room to hang dry my plants, use to paper bag dry with sometimes mixed results, but now I freeze dry my stuff and couldn’t be happier. Here’s a pic of my latest harvest of G13’s Blue Cindy and what the TrimPro did. Could probably give my blade a sharpening soon, but still doing well enough for me.

Keep the blade clean and sharp. Cleaner and sharper equals a way better trim with less spinning. Buy cut proof gloves and a stone. For sure. Don't over pack the tray. Remove the medium to large fan leafs off first. Save the trim and buy some bubble bags.

I find the round nugs trim best. The spear shaped colas tend to bind up a little. At least in my 13" trimmer.

I appreciate all the tips, after about a pound I found a good groove. Not the exact trim I want but totally worth the time savings.

Trimmer worked out well enough. Worth the time saved and easy to clean. Just trimmed up some of the really nice stuff by hand afterwards.
