Bluelab ppm rising oddly, help explain?

Hey gang,

just like it says .. the lights came on today and:
ppm = 980
temp =67
ph = 5.5

two hours later i peaked in and am scratching my head
ppm = 1130
temp = 67
ph = 5.6

I did add a few ml of ph up to raise it to 5.6 ph but that would not add 150 ppm to my numbers (maybe 10 to 20 ppm added from the little ph up I used).. its just boggles me and am curious if others had this and figured out why the jump .. thank you

just wanted to update.. It has been a few hours since I started this thread and the numbers are different yet again

temp= 67
ph = 5.5

any one have thoughts on this yo yo-ing?

Yes, it's happening right now. I just dumped two buckets and refilled with plain water, going to check them & maybe repeat in the morning.

What are you doing?

I would check batteries, clean, re-calibrate and see what it does.

I will recalibrate.. I have been watching it all day..currently
ppm=1130
temp=67

I am thinking its between the hydroguard and the bud candy / carboload. I am guessing the plants are eating since the ppm goes down but then my guess is the bacteria is also feeding and it is bouncing up... just a speculation .. I did do a heavy defoliationlast night.. almost schwazz like i would say.. So as long as the numbers are in the ballpark I am ok with them needing to bounce back

I will see about recalibrating it now and I have a stick i can use for a second opinion.. Time to go check things out and ill report back shortly, thanks

If I had to guess it would be evaporation

Were you adding pH up after you've already added pH down? If so adding bases & acids will produce salts. To what extent, Idk but it's something to consider.

Relax,remember its parts per million! Maybe one of your plants had Mexican last night and farted.

So I did recalibrate everything and cleaned and calibrated and cleaned again.... I have been holding steady since yesterday at
ppm= 1160
temp= 67
ph = 5.8

I also calibrated my pens .. they are a little off from the bluelab but I trust the bluelab more than I do the $20 chinese ph meters lol... my ppm meter is the hm digital com-80 and that is withing 50ish ith the bluelab now so I will take the average of the two... Tomorrow evening though I am due for a total system flush as I will be changing out the nutes for week 3 of flower.. I will keep you posted afterwards

PPM was around 300 last night,now it over 500, so I'm going to replace the water again, wait a day or two and go to 1/2 strength nutes.

1 gallon of water @ 100ppm's which evaporates 10% of the water what is the remaining PPM? lol

111 ppm

Edited to show math:
100 ppm * 1 gallon = x ppm * .9 gallon
Solve for x = (100 ppm * 1 gallon)/.9 gallon
x = 111 ppm

As long as your meter/pen are calibrated correct, I would say that your plants are just thirsty and as they drink,PPMs go up. If they drink enough your Ph will start to change...when they eat your PPMs go down. Hydro is high speed homie, you should look in to a bigger res it will help stabilize your PPM/ Ph. Just my opinion.
