Blue Lab Truncheon PPM meter - good buy?

I just ordered the Truncheon PPM / TDS / EC meter from Amazon for $96 on the recommendation of a friend in Oregon who is far more experienced than myself. It seems to be the standard in the industry with a 5 year warranty and no need for calibration. I'd really like to hear some feedback from growers that own and use this meter. Are there any quirks or is it just a dam solid piece of equipment?

I keep getting burned by these cheap Amazon TDS meters that give inaccurate readings. I bought 2 of the exact same meter that give 2 different readings 60PPM apart in my nutrient solution, but when both are dipped in 342 calibration solution I get a reading of 400PPM on both. Bizarre and frustrating to the max. And I'm officially done with cheap TDS meters.

I'm breaking in my new truncheon meter tonight when I get home. I'll post again after I've had a chance to tool around with it. I feel like a kid on Christmas eve - I'm super psyched :)

Be sure to check it with some reference solution from time to time. I had one for years and It turned out to be all outta whack. BTW
