Had a quick, unexpected wedding gig this afternoon, so rainy and the traffic sucked. This bridezilla insisted on having the ceremony outside in the rain, but my group doesn't play in the rain per our contract. They rented a 12'x12' tent for us and placed it next to a building. To our chagrin, it was a GB Packers tent! You put Chicago boyz in a Packers tent? Are you crazy??? We burned that shit to the ground. J/K, but it leaked a little on our shit. It was a quick $350. I also ordered groceries from Jewel to be delivered at 8pm this evening, but they fucking canceled my order! First time that's happened, probably because the weather is so bad. But, I'm now home, dry, and high. Things could be worse...

Got the new girl up on the wall and ready for rapid deployment.

The red PRS I had originally picked out had a neck problem, so I switched to a Gretsch.
Looking forward to eventually remodeling this room and figuring out a better way to store my instruments.

Not pictured: Acoustic Cello and acoustic guitar; they're in another room for lack of space in here.

Now back to arpeggios and weed all night. :bigjoint:

Is that a Yamaha Silent cello? I had one of their violins, it wasn't great but I could plug in my headphones and practice late into the night at my old apartment. Being high is the only was for me to go through scales, etudes, arpeggios, etc.. I'd be a much better musician if my folks let me smoke weed as a child...

No, it's a "Celio" electric cello body (cheap a$$ Chinese body) which I stripped out all the electronics, tailpiece, and bridge. I rebuilt the electronics myself, then sent it to a luthier to custom fit a good tailpiece, German cut bridge, and shave the nut and fingerboard to setup the action to be as close to a classical cello as he could get it.

Came in about $500 less than the Yamaha electric after all the extra work and it plays a lot cleaner.

My next goal is to cut out the Chinese factory and build my own electric cello body, neck and fingerboard with better ergonomic points for cello playing than the one I currently have; then have it fitted with a Barbara transducer pickup, one best electric classic string pickup sysytem; but that's a project for another time.

Edit: My 2 cents on the Yamaha 'silent' line, it came out while I was in college. A freshman came to school with a silent cello my last year of school, none of the proportions felt right, there was an awful ground hum from the pre-amp when you played it plugged into an amp, the response was "eh ok I guess" but it barely projected as quickly as an acoustic cello.

Any electronic instrument is silent if it's plugged into headphones. I plug my electric franken-cello into my audio interface and play all night long with my headphones on and studio monitors off. So they always came across as 'gimmicky' to me. I haven't played any of their 21st century models, but if they're unchanged since the debut in the late 90's, there are better ways to go.

How is new pooch settling in?
Sometimes like a rug, sometimes a throw pillow. Bonded to me pretty fast and won't let me out of her sight. Has not barked, whined or growled since we brought her home. I can live with that. She hasn't pooped either. Took her 24 hours to decide to pee. She does like exploring my garden, found all my hidden maintenance trails so she isn't damaging anything. She looks at squirrels and rabbits but doesn't get triggered by them, which is nice.20240602_090450.jpg

I was up at 5 am, went for a dawn walk downtown. Came home and fogged for mosquitoes which are now the size of Sri Lankan fruit bats. Waited til just now to smoke a little Bag of Oranges. I'm not sure Anita Bryant would have approved. bongsmilie
Welcome back to the dog life! She looks like she read the manual left for her with that lovely stretch on the couch! I'm happy for you. Good timing on getting her too, right as you go into summer :) Be careful with those mosquitos I'm back in Deet.
