Blackstar 240w defect/problem?

Talked with Gotham at lunch and they gave me an RMA and claim that they will repair/replace with a quick turn around so off they go tomorrow. I was told that the radiation from that diode is too intense for the cap like I have heard before. They then told me that the current models their selling have a different diode and different cap, so this problem shouldn't exist anymore.

The updated diodes also look different I was told. But I'm happy that their doing a quick turn around because these need to be on in a few weeks. I will keep you updated on what I get back and how the return process goes.
that is good to know because i have a 2012 500w BS!

I received 1 panel back today, I called and I think they made a mistake so will figure it out and send the second one today. Anyway I think this is a second version of the 2012 model because the fans on the back have grills wich was previosly done by a few as a cooling mod. I am including a pic below and am curious if anyone has one of these units? I can't seem to find a single pic anywhere of a BS 240 UV with grills on the back.

The back of that BS240 with the grills is exactly what my BS180 looks like. My BS 240, as you have stated, doesn't have those grills.

Aww, just checked my BS180 today and see that I have the same problem apparently.

Looks like I'm gonna have to cash in on that warranty.

Well, I couldn't get in touch with the rep from blackstarled.com, Caleb Duerr.
He doesn't answer emails. He doesnt answer his phone and he doesn't return messages. The guy apparently just likes taking money, But I digress.

I called Lighthouse Hydro and they said they would take care of the warranty. They gave me a RMA# and I'll be sending the panel out tomorrow.

Thumbs up to Lighthouse Hydro for standing behind their warranty.

A big FUCK YOU to Caleb Duerr.

Guys, I just noticed my 135W 2012 Blackstar has the same problem, damn. The led still works but completely melt the lens, and the glass in fron of it has a dark mark on it. Not sure if it's still under warranty, but I live in Europe so I would prefer not to send back anything. Just to be sure, could this be any dangerous ? I mean, could it cause fire or anything else ? As far as I know, in the worst case , when the led completely burns out it could shut off the whole led's row, right ?

I'm thinking, if I got this problem what would I do about it.(if out of warranty)

Can you somehow short the LED by drilling in it and filling it with conducting liquid materials, if not
then going through the pcb slowly with a rotating file until you reach the copper, where you solder a wire on and make a short that way.
(it worked sort of on my test with an old pcb)

Off course you can remove the many tiny screws and do a proper repair but avoiding that is the challenge.
