bit of confusion

im confused with all the stages of the marijuana grow phase. i know one.

germination. what comes after germination and what do you do to achieve each different state by the time its ready. basicaly my biggest question is, once you plant it and you have a good plant growing, how long do you have to wait till it produces buds that are smokable?

germination,seedling,veg stage,pre-floral stage,floral stage,peak floral stage,maturation,death
u control when the plant buds by controlling the light cycles
