BigBud and friends first time in Coco Coir

After a year or so messing about with soil and organic growing, I've come to realise that I'm not very good at it so I've decided to try my hand at some inorganic growing in coco coir. I've heard so many things about it and seen amazing results from some of the grow journals here, pukka being one of my favourites.

As this is my first grow I hope some of you will guide me along the way!

Got 2 Big Bud, 3 Thai Stick, 2 Chocolope and a Big Buddha SAS seeds in some root riot cubes, planted at different times.


The Big Buds have sprouted first


I've xplanted them into small clear pots in coco, they were watered with 1/4 strengh Rhizotonic at ph 5.8


And placed in my baby veg box, under 2x65w CFL, 60% humidity, room temperature (21C/70F) - you can see some Jack Herer that I planted last week in soil, can these be xplanted into coco?


Some general questions:
Is the strength of the Rhizotonic ok to start with? I soaked the coco in the solution before xplanting.

Should I bury the stems? Is it essential? I'd prefer to wait until the next size pot.

Yeah the small one is a quite runty, I'll stick with her though, hopefully she'll make it through the seedling phase into veg. Fingers crossed!

Quick question about Coco, the pots seem to be nearly dry already! Is this normal?

get em wet then mate.........dont let dry to much.....

Awesome, thanks a lot! I've watered them a bit more. Left a little run off so it can wick some more up if it gets fry during the night.

Chocolope and Big Buddha SAS just popped

What do you think? Should I be patient and leave em in the prop or just stick em in coco and pop em in the baby veg chamber?

Decided to pot just the SAS, the Chocolope could do with another day in the prop.
Like before the coco was soaked in Rhizotonic (1ml/L) for a few hours before I put the seedling in it.



The Big Buds are now 3 days old and are being fed 1.5ml/L Rhiz. Not stretching any more as I've put them closer to the lights, I might bury the stems in the next pot or leave it as it might save on some pruning before flowering.



I must have been quite stoned when posting this thread as the Jack Herer are infact RockLocks! Oops! You can probably see ice cubes in a container, they're made from carbonated water. I use them to add humidity and possibly a little CO2 to the enclosure as they melt.

Chocolope was planted yesterday night, as before medium was soaked in Rhizotonic at 1ml/L

Big Buds got their first taste of Canna A&B today at 0.5ml/L and Rhizotonic at 1.5ml/L

The dicotyledons on the Big Buddha SAS and unfolded and nice and green.

I'm feeding the coco plants every 3 days, they only need about 100ml each this will increase (amount and frequency) as the plants grow.

The 2 RockLocks (in soil) had a nice feed of Bio Bizz Root juice at 5ml/L

Growth is coming on at a good rate so far, now that I've harvested my current grow I can begin to transfer them out of the baby box into the main tent where they can get 300w of CFL light, which will hopefully promote tight inter nodal growth.

I'm on :

A&B 0.75ml/1L
Rhiztonic 2ml/1L
pH 5.8

1 L of this is enough to water them every 2/3 days.

I also harvested my current grow yesterday:
Took 8 hours!!! And I swear I got a contact high from all the strong smells in the air, the micro shears were covered in resin, it was 4mm thick by the time I'd finished! Smoked some of the resin last night, I don't think I've ever been that high! Seriously potent. No idea on weight, I don't have scales yet.

All going well here! Plants have been moved into the big tent, And we have a new comer, an AK 47 clone.

3ml/L Rhiz
Every 2-3 days


Rocklocks are on life support (soil was too rich) and my thai plants never sprouted. They were bagseed though, questionable genetics or even unlikely to have fully developed embryos/

Growth is getting really fast now, the larger plants require water every day in the airpots. However, on one of the BB's I've noticed some tip burn on the lower leaves so I plan on reducing feeding to every third day and ph'd water and perhaps a little bit of Rhizotonic on the others days until I pot up next week.

I've started foliar feeding today, a very weak solution of 1 level tsp/L of epsom salts, 0.25ml/L a&b, the pH can be anywhere between 6.2-7.0. Probably do it once or twice per week. This has an added benefit of strengthening the stem system (from the weight of the water) hopefully leading to bigger heavier buds.

The RL's are out of intensive care, they're making a slow but welcome recovery.

I'm on:
1.5ml/1L A&B
4ml/1L Rhiztonic
0.5tsp/1L

Setup:

Potted up to 10L pots last Friday! Growth has been EXPLOSIVE! It's a really exciting time , there's change every day. some deficiencies are starting to crop up, nitorgen and magnesium I believe, I'm foliar feeding with a bit of Bio bizz grow and Epsom salts. I've also ordered some Grotek Calmax.

I'm running:
2ml/1L A&B
2ml/1L Rhiztonic
1/2 tsp/1L Epsom Salts (Once a week)

Nice setup going on here dude, got big bud growing myself its streched a fair bit tho so gonna watch urs cause im thinking its genetic the buds are looking good tho

Very nice man, that ak 47 is gonna be beast i was thinking of growing it.

Thanks man! The AK has been one of the most surprising after the SAS, it's literally doubled in size in less than a week. A mate grew a monster plant from one of these clones so I'm interested to see what happens with this lady
