BHO Temps...please help!

Hey guys, finally off to making my first batch with my new setup. I am fairly new to making BHO and have a couple questions.

1.Whats the best way to checking the temperature of the oil when in the vacuum chamber? I have an infrared temp gun, but it only reads the temp of whatever it hits first which is the clear lid of my Vac-it Pro, not the temperature of the oil inside. It will read under 100 degrees when pointed at the top of the vac chamber, but when opened up it will read much, much higher. I can leave the lid off but I want to be able to use heat and be at a full vac at the same time.

2. I just bought a Vac-It Pro chamber and a Robinair 3 cfm 2-stage pump. For some reason I can't get the gauge to go any higher than -27psi, when it should be at -29 (maxed out.) Any ideas?

1- de-vac and open chamber then check
2- where are you geographically, the higher above sea level you go the lower the gauge will read but it will be equivalent to max vac

Yea just open the chamber and zap you're bho with the gun (not through the lid)

Many, many analog gauges are just junk, I was ready to start bitching at Robinair until I found this out. Also make sure your seal is good and snug on the chamber, I believe Vac-it Pro uses silicone to secure the seal, it will get loose over time.

Also once you run enough batches you'll be able to get a pretty good idea of what the temp of the bho is just by the temp reading off your heat source, I'm not suggesting you don't check it inside the chamber just saying I can dial a temp and tell you within a couple degrees what the bho temp will be, though I still check it to ensure I'm right.

it is as easy as that

a quick tip since this your first attempt
if you are using a griddle don't put your oil directly on the bottom of your chamber, since that is the hottest part of the chamber with the most fluctuation

I simply have 2 cardboard cut outs that fit into the bottom of my chamber, which raises my oil off the surface

EEk 100F at the top is super hot inside.

The above comments are good but you might try vac it under no heat. Then pulling it out and massaging it to you body temperature (98') then slamming it back in for another round.

I think this would be good for you to start with less risk of burning the meds. (THC boils at room temperature at -29.9.)

As for your vac gauge showing -27 its probably bad. Seal your vac and leave it overnight if its at the same pressure its probably your gauge and not a leak. (unless you have a 5 gallon vac it then try giving it a longer pull till the vac gets super loud then quiet again.)

Open the chamber and use a heat gun to tell the difference between inside and outside the can. Once you know the relationship, use visual feedback to tell what is going on.

It isn't as much a dial for end result, as it is dial to approximate end result and tweak artistically for the best effects.

Thanks for all the tips guys, really appreciate it. My heat source is a griddle I just bought at sears, but just has a dial and no temp meter at all. What do you recommend for the best heat source? Links?

A griddle will be too hot and temp control has too much swing.

Reptile heat mats work well. Your only after 115f max right?
