Better way to measure than g per w?

So bud really seems to turn my mind in different ways and makes me think of things I never would but sometimes come up with better ways to grow. As I was reading all the theads on 1g per watt I came to see that this judge of how well you are growing really means nothing for people who are hydro growers.

I think Hydro/Aero/DWC/fogponic or any other names I missed, need a different control formula. The power usage of the extra unit (air pump, water pump, etc) doesnt work for the 1g per watt formula. What are anyones thoughts on a better equation for this grow group?

I guess I would really need to measure the outputs of all my mis equipment then I can find a true #.

The added power increment for hydro, even high-pressure aero, is tiny compared to lighting and enviro control. Ime it is more than offset by the efficiency of a dialed-in hydro grow. cn

wattage of the light? per plant? so if you were to grow one plant under a 600 watt hps you would get 21 ounces?

lolz

I know that thw watt means for your lights....but I have seen set up where there are 8 plants.....each plant with an air pump, water pump per 2 plants, fogger for each plant, DH and fans. You really think all that doesnt add up? I know its nothing compared to the light however I bet a set up like this would take a 1gpw grow and make it more like 3/4gpw if it were useage of watts and not just the light watts. Im not sayin 1gpw doesnt work.....just thinking in my head and thats what came out lol.

i understand your point but it doesn't have to do with how efficiantly you are using the lamp. some people grow with a 400w hps in a closet with no envrironmental controls besides a few table fans. some people with a 400w hps have all the fans, filters, a/c, etc. the gram per watt goal only has to do with lights. it's touted as a measure of one's skill because it takes skill to hit a gram per watt no matter what setup you have. if you have to use a few more watts in "accessories" to achieve that goal, fine, it's about dialing in the setup. but it's more of a reference to one's skill in reading and tending to their plants and getting the most out of a setup.

it may be true that without the extra accessories some people can't hit that goal. but it just makes the ones who CAN all the more skilled.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but after reviewing some videos that strainhunters did for greenhouse seed company of good growing 1 plant under 600watt HPS, 600grams wet/fresh weight seem to be about right to shoot for unless you've got perfect conditions and perfect grow environment, then double that yield to over 1200g wet/fresh...so that falls in line with 1g/w measurement for "doing ok" growing, but not "professional" :)

600 grams wet is about equal to - a little more than 3 oz dry :joint::peace:

I don't think gram per watt is as good of a measuring unit as is grams per dollar spent on power.

I like how you put this. I can see now thats its more about the light then over all watts used. I like the way you say "its all about the skill"! Toshay.

if you're talking gram of per watt of wet buds then i would believe it. i was thinking 600 grams of dried cured bud from one plant under a 600w, not gonna happen.

We are talking dry bud. Yes it is possible to get 600g under 1 600w light. Not easy but possible.

my first grow under 600w doing 6 plants was 18 oz dried,
in soil using bio bizz nutes,
thats 504 grams, iythe gpw is possible and even could be halved again ie 1.5 gpw
but thts for experienced growers.

I like to measure what I harvest on the "Shit-load" scale.

If I harvest quite alot "That's a proper shit-load"

Decent harvest "that's sort of a shitload"

Poor harvest "Shouldve been a shitload".

Way more accurate that gpw and all that.

What is ....is ...

I grow a shitload. Every once in while it's sort of a shitload. I had one earlier this year that should've been a shitload.

I am growing a shitload now. I expect to get a Pound off my 600 watt HPS.

I am currently vegging 5 White Widows - 5 Sour Kush - 2 Pre-98 Bubba Kush.

It should be ready to harvest on X-mas :peace:
