I'm broke and can only afford store bought lights. At the moment I have 10 1650lumn. Cfl lights my grow are has a.c. but I know Led lights are were a lot of inside growers are using. But will this style bulb work as well, better, or at all. (750 lumn. Daylight/6500k led.) I know the cfl have more lumens but if I got the equivalent in led. Or are complete rubbish?

Oh and is it okay to mix warm and cool cfl bulb types and cfl and led mixed? Has anyone done this?

Can you fit a 400W HPS lamp in your grow area?
Its the heat my area is in a foam box. And I also don't have the cash to get one yet. But less dont get as hot. My grow cabinet is laying horizontal but I built it to house one talk plant if you flip it on end. So when I'm through with this batch I'm going to do a single run. And see what yields better.( 3 or 4 small) or 1 tall. Then I will need something of that effect. But I just found this and I'm really intreagedwww.beeslighting.com/product-p/led-8032m40-a.htm?gclid=CIfm0Zunwc4CFVdbhgodya0Jwg&gdffi=803d4dd6a5df420f86f4dc5cbe5c4201&gdfms=6F841CF12AD04C278C50B0C30C882E52

That product claims it's a replacement for a 400W HPS lamp while only drawing 140W. Even 140W of underdriven top bin cxb wouldn't be able to replace a 400W HPS. Bullshit claim!

If startup cost is your biggest issue (which it seems like it is), LED might not be the best choice for you. That being said, CFL is crap.

There are cheaper led kits I can buy . I'm not too find of the cfls but their working for what I need them for. I'm not trying to get an top big but i don't want to suffer quility. That's why I'm staying small.

Isn't mogul base a regular socket I didn't . Then why do I need a mh or hps fixture. It says "retro fits". You maybe right because at 150 w I don't think I would need a fixture for those other types. yeah for a 400w you would need it but not 150w. or am I confused?

What's your price range northern grow lights has a veto cob light on sale for like 269
I saw these and these are close to what I can afford but are they usful for the entire grow. And how many do or would I need for a space 24×33×47 and I didn't see lumn count on them but this is the link

Go to the led and other lighting section that's all they use is cobs. Or check out grow mou5e on YouTube he explained it to where I could understand it. For your space you could easily do 4 cobs for about the same cost as one of those retrofits

That is a bit incorrect. 140w of top binned emitters most certainly could outperform 400w hps depending on a whole bunch of factors. First being the number of CoBs - one can run 14 CXB3590s at 10w each. ~28-35k lumen output in total with that. With the proper coverage that you would get from emitter placement more of the plant is getting hit with better light.

Then you got veg time, environmental factors, skill of the grower, etc. A grower who believes hps is better than led will probably do better using hps and vice versa.

No commercial 140W LED can compete with a 400W hps.. (nor can any of our DIY lamps)

The LED's would need to be ~91% efficient to compete. The best DIY builds are between 55-65% efficiency. You really ought to re-tune your BS-o-meter.

(400W * 0.32)/140W = 0.914

A grower who believes hps is better than led will probably do better using hps and vice versa.
There's some voodoo right there. "if you believe in something hard enough, it will become true!"

Sooner or later, people will be making the argument that 100W of LED can beat 400W of HPS... (efficiency > 100%) (facepalm)

Surely, clever use of reflectors, lenses, and spectrum tweaks has no limits. The sad truth is that even if we had 100% efficient lamps, we'd still be using a ton of power. (i get the feeling a lot of people think 100% efficiency means the same thing as 0 power usage)
