if i want to keep the original strain from seed by taking clones is it better to keep a mother plant in veg and clone of that to flower with or just keep taking clones from the past clone and so on

will you slowly lose the original genetics and start picking up more of its dominant traits and or bad ones if you clone to clone

How would you lose the genetics?? It's the same plant. Over and over and over..... You can keep a Mother or clone off of clones. It's still the same plant. Like cutting up an earthworm.
Things only change when it's fertilized.

i know fuck all about how genetics work but i imagined each time you grow out a plant it might grow a little different and if you cloned that it would carry on the differences. so you are saying clones will always be the same as the original seed even if the plant from seed is long gone .if so thats good because its allot easier to just keep taking new clones and not keeping a mother alive

I've been cloning the same plant for over 20 years and it's the same it was the day I planted her Seed. but if you choose to keep a mother it will be okay either way.
Good luck and Welcome to RIU.

If you got room in your veg room it is a good idea to keep a mother plant going. Pick the hardiest, strongest plant for motherhood. Although theoretically the cuttings from clones to clones should be the same genetics as from a mother plant -- there can be some genetic drift. If nothing else a mother plant that has given a lot of clones will have a ton of growing spots and produce big-time when put to flower.

Good luck, BigSteve.
