Best way to deal with heat issues?

So I'm planning my grow setup for next year. Depending on my living situation I'll have a 5x5 or 5x10 grow tent that will be in a bed room. I'll have a 1000w for the 5x5 or 2 1000w for the 5x10. I live in Northern California and it gets pretty hot in the summers here(above 100 at times). I'm concerned about my electricity bill, but if I'll sacrifice it if it means a bigger yield that will compensate for the higher electricity bill. What would be the best way to deal with the heat? I have a portable AC unit I will use, but I want to do everything I can to be very efficient with my electricity use. What do you guys recommend? Oh and also it will be on the second story of a house so yeah...another addition to the heat issue

buy air cooled hoods and exhaust the heat out the roof... cut some supply vents from somewhere cold in the house like the basement and duct it up to your room... also only run the lights on at night, during the heat of the day turn your lights off...

why do you want two 1000 watt lights for a 5x10 room 2 600watts would work fine imo

Like Juan said, you definitely need sealed reflectors that you can cool with air. It's gonna get HOT in there! I had 2 1000W HPS in a 4x9 tent and cooled them with below 30F outdoor winter air and still had to leave the tent door open. Really I wish I never bought the 1000s and instead went with 600s.

So either get some really really kickass fans for your 1000W hoods or go with 600W and save yourself the headache. Even with the 600W you'll still need to cool them though. Also 600W is more or less the sweet spot for HID efficacy (lumens/Watt).

Plan to mount the A/C in a window, so the heat produced by the exhaust isn't inside the room being counter productive.

What about having it go up into the attic? I don't want to have my windows cracked all the time because of noise and other factors and my windows are in very visible spot(near a balcony glass door, well it the only window IS the balcony glass door in the room, so I don't think I can get away with mounting it to the window, so I will have to keep them closed most the time. I was thinking of mounting it to the attic, so all the heat would be released into there.

Your best bet is get two 600 and don't grow in the summer. Fans or no fans, your ass is going to need an AC

Don't try to push the envelope with all these crazy lights. You end up with a bunch of headaches and a big pile of heat stressed weed.

Leave some bud in a 90 degree room for about a week an see how much smell it looses....

I have an AC unit. I'm just concerned about how much that'll effect my electricity bill + my apartment won't have AC. BUT in the room i'll be growing in. There is a part cut out of the wall(now boarded up) where an AC unit used to be, so I was thinking I could unboard that part and exhaust all my heat out there(And I'll make sure I get a real nice carbon filter, so my neighbors don't smell it). I've decided I'm going with 2 600w in a 5 x 10 to start. And am staying away from 1000W at least until I move onto bigger things

check the wattage of the ac / convert . it will be alot for a ac on 24/hour

Yeah that's what I figured. I was planning on getting a thermostat to control the temp, so the AC isn't running when I don't need it to be. I will also be running the lights at night instead of the day. I'll be sure to check the wattage on it when I pick it up from storage.
