Best Time to Add Dry Organic Ammendments Outdoors in Soil

Hi all,

Wondering about the best time to apply dry amendments like chicken manure, guano, etc to the soil for an outdoor grow? I have pelletized chicken manure and was wondering if it was better to work it into the soil a month or two before planting to get it started breaking down, or if I would end up losing a lot of the nutrients due to rain leaching etc.?? Should I just wait and mix it into the soil when transplanting out?

Also regarding Phosphorus to provide a boost for flowering, I have some guano I was going to add, and was wondering the same thing about the timing. Should I wait till the ladies are closer to flowering and topdress it in, or can I mix it in the soil before planting and not lose all the nutrients?

Thanks!

What about your compost? I didnt see you mention that. Its as important as your guanos.

Why?
Compost provides youe CEC sites to hold nutrients in the soil. Provided easy carbon for microbes to mineralize your nitrogen so it doesn't wash out or run off.

Chicken pellets do need some time and moisture to break apart then get microbial breakdown. And to breakdown carbon is needed. Sugar in humans gives us energy: compost to microbes gives them energy. Protein builds muscle and makes water soluble wastes in humans : nitrogen manures build proteins for microbes and makes water soluble wates for plants.

About a month before your target date is a good lead time to prep your hole. Yes monsoon rains can wash out some of your ferts but you can always top dress later if needed.

You can mix directly in the hole at transplant but you would use much less and wouldn't see appreciable growth for a week with pellets.

Phos can be mixed before and at transplant. Its a needed nutrient even in veg. And yes extra when flowering.

Like I said in the other post Gaia is a top recommendation for me to give ppl you will have no issue with it and molasses just dose a bit heavy on the Gaia top dressing and work into the soil a inch or two . I also add keep meal worm castings and glacier rock dust when transplanting helps with roots. Also I would do a compost tea to feed the microbes once a week mix a five gallon bucket with ro water add your airstones and pump with your compost mix and let bubble for 24 hrs out of light the more froth in the bucket the better.
