bought seedling soil from the garden center, comes in small bags of about 5-6gallons for like 5 bucks. jiffy pellets are great too;)

or get potting soil and perlight or expanded clay to mix it with. coco fibbers are good to and make less dirt to recycle latter on:)

the main issue with soil is that it has to be light and has to drain well so that water doesn't build pocket in which your roots start to rot away;)

also start in small bucket, better pots. this reduces the chance of a waterpocket and over-watering a lot;)

2oz are fine to start with for the first days and is the size of a expanded jiffy pellet ruffly:D never go with buckets larger then 1/4 gallon for the start, and that is still big, 1/8 is a good size really:)

go the jiffy way. thats my method i dont even germ my seeds. i just put em in a jiffy pellet and it come up in half the tome it takes to germ and then to place into the jiffy. i also think it stunts theyre growth. once my plants sprout they juist grow and grow. lol

thats the best way to go!

i'm not talking jiffy mix, i'm talking jiffy pellets, and those i checked for pH been around 6.2-6.5 in pH what is just fine. and if you have a mix that is slightly to acid, so like 5.5pH you simply add some alkaline solution until it is in the range of around 6-6.5pH which is perfect for soil grown cannabis;)

i try that stunt right now with 2 seeds of my all time favorite BB in lil rockwool cubes, hope that it will just work as well like with jiffies since i can't pack the rockwoll around the seeds as i could do it with jiffies soil, but i have high hopes for that experiment:D

^^ hey no spanking you dude;) just got confused with your jiffy mix which i have now growing knowledge on, never tried that stuff since the pellets are the cheapest and easiest method of starting seeds for soil grow. no overwatering, enough nutes for 2-3 weeks, no trouble with replanting to a bigger pot since they just have to be buried in the soil of the bigger bucket. i have witnessed a few first-timers messing up their babies on this:D so that is one hazrat less for them and even long-timers such as cali still stick to this method:)

The Jiffy Starting Mix is definitely the way to go!! The soil is so light, the roots will have no problem moving around it! Pretty much any soil that says it is STARTING SOIL should do you good! Good luck!

I germinate lots of seeds besides cannabis, and for overall multi-seed use, jiffy mix is very good....the jiffy pellets work very well for ganja, tithonia, tomatoes, zinnia, sunflowers etc. ....larger seeds seem to do better with the pellets. The major caveat in using pellets is that they can dry out very quickly as plant grows (esp. w/ HIDs or outdoors).Transplant quickly!
I like to use ProMix BX with about 50% added vermiculite...this helps a lot when trying to sprout tiny seeds...like coleus. Vermiculite retains moisture to assist with stubborn seeds as well.
I germinate cannabis seeds in paper towels or cheesecloth and put the little boogers in the soil as soon as little tip pops out upon splitting shell.
My impression is that cannabis seeds are not as finicky about the medium they are started in as many other types of seed. Straight ProMix works well as have all other “starter” soil mixes I’ve tried using for marijuana starting.
