Why not us 5 gallon pots of Roots soil and make compost tea in a bucket. I would say for the tea, Advanced Nutrients Organic Grow, Organic Bloom, VermiT Compost Tea and Advanced Nutrients Bud Candy. Feed only what it needs. I promise that wont let u down.

I've been thinking of switching from happy frog to either the sunshine mix 4 or promix bx. not sure which would be best with jacks

Spam from a canna bot huh, lol?
Ok, don't ask for an opinion if you're not willing to take on all sides. Canna is by far the superior line mentioned out of all of these.....
anyways. my SN originated because I've been pro obama (you know, yes we can!) And since he's kept his word to keep us medical patients safe, he's getting mad props from me.
Fox farms is ok, but there are MANY better lines out there, Advanced Nutrients being one of them, and also less expensive than Canna...and also a direct competetor.
So, just be careful who's advice you're dismissing, I hand out gold all day long on this site, just depends on what people do with it....
My appologies to Yes We Canna! I did think that you were a sales rep or something of that sort. I am all for what Obama has done for us also. Why do you use Canna? Have you used soil if the past? What were the differences that you noticed?

Love this site. Before today, I didnt even know about Jack's. I will check it out. Thanks.
So, what I am reading, it sounds as if I should be using some sort of combination of Jack's, combined with Fox Farms Ocean Forrest, or maybe even some Happy Frog? What would be the ratio that you would suggest? While using this soil, will there be a need for nutes later on? Im kinda confused with that last one. Is there a soil to were I can use just that (with descent results) and not have to use nutes? Thanks to all.

no worries brother! i knew that it kind of looked shady as i was typing the response. half way through i was saying to myself, shit that looks weird, i better say something, but i think i made it look worse.
anyway, back in the day i started with the soil perlite mixes, then tried composts and teas, dabbled a bit with hydroponics/dwc/aeroponics. they all have their pros and cons. soil is simple, and your rewarded with amazing flavors and aromas that arent found with hydroponics. however the yealds with hydro are amazing, especially a good dwc system.
the guys at canna have come up with some incredible formulations. and everything is actually created especially for cultivating cannabis. they grow mad fields of pot in holland perfecting their nutrients (a not well known secret). the coco line that i've been stuck on now for the last 6 years, has produced harvests for me that have yeilds comparable hydro, but with scents and flavors and potency of soil.
i've developed a very picky pallet when it comes to my herb. and also being a provider, i think has made me more picky. i take it personal, and my patients know they're always getting quality medicine because of that.

I will look into the Canna products also. What I am really looking for is the best quality for the money (but who isnt). This will be my first grow so I am not trying to overwhelm myself at first. I am not concerned so much with quantity as I am quality.

Almost any of the good Soil / combinations will work well, You really need to determin what you can get locally, Fox Farms . $20 a bag but will cost you another $20 a bag to ship it in small Qty. Luckly there is a place close to me for that, but since soil is replaced every grow, it is crucial your not shipping every bag, both for finacially and risk purposes.

i've used fox farm ocean forest and fox farm potting mix, 3:1 ratio... works great.

as for nutes big bloom and tiger bloom.... they're the shit....

remember to stop feeding it about two weeks before harvest to flush the soil out....

I have plants in both Ocean Forest and Miracle Gro seed starting mix. I'm a new grower but, I think I'll stick with the MG for half the price. It's got a low npk (5-1-5) and will feed for 2-4 weeks depending on how fast the plants grow. All you have to do is water properly, which can be the tricky part.

For nutes I'm using Humboldt Nutrients Oneness, Botanicare Hydroplex, Botanicare Sweet grape, EarthJuice MicroBlast, Thrive Alive B-1 green label, and Brer Rabbit unsulfured blackstrap molasses.
