Best Method for Starting Seeds

Hey guys i have had some rough times with sturdy plants and starting them. I heard dropping into a shotglass with water till they sink is good but im not sure where to go from there. I was going to use rockwool tablets or those starter tablets in the tray. I have heard they break the soil easier and i will be transplanting into 2 gal pots. Please help.

ok this is what you do i tried to use the shot glass method it only work for me once so i would say skip it get 2 or 3 paper towls a pie tin and a plastic zip lock bag wet the paper towls then fold them to fit in to the pie tin then place your seeds in the paper towls then fold the paper towls over the seeds so it is moist around the whole seed then put a little water in the tin and place the tin in the zip lock bag then place in a warme place i used the top of my cable box check the seeds every day to let fresh oxygen in the bag

or you could just plant them right in your medium and water. i mean they are seeds. But normally i use the paper towel method.

I agree to this...check out my albums i started a seed a couple of days ago in a rockwool cube...just a normal seed out of a bag of dope i had...put it straight into the rockwool and kept moist i even have nute water running in the resevoir but the roots will take about a week or 2 to get down to the water so I dont really have to worry about chemical burn. I also found that doing this gives my plant a small boost because it recieves a very minute amount of nutes at a young age making it easier for the plant to adjust to the full dosage of nutes it asks for. I use hydroton and not soil but i would think soil would be even easier as it holds more water then hydroton ever will

The only thing i do is put them in a napkin fold it up wet napkin real good. then i put it on pipe under sink. then twice a day i check napkin make sure it stays good and wet in two days seeds crack and u get a little tale coming out. gl and happy growing

does it matter if u put the seeds in a cube or some sort, will that help them grow better? I was trying to figure out how to make it a more stable and healthy plant than my last few.

either plant right in your medium, or germinate first using whatever method you prefer, then plant. it's either or...

I used to start germinated seeds in rockwool directly in a dwc system. Now I start them in Rapid Rooters in a tray until roots emerge then move them to the dwc netpots.

I now have nor have I ever seen any evidence to support germinating your seeds outside of your grow medium. It's just plain craziness that's gone around forever. How many seeds have I germinated directly in soil or rockwool...I dunno anymore, way too many to count. How many have ever NOT germinated.....0

I see threads all of the time about people who germinate their seeds outside in a paper towel or in a some water, etc. and then plant and bam there's a problem. Seed won't poke, tap root wasn't facing down, I may have touched the delicate taproot, just plant the damn thing and move on.

Grab a cup with solid sides, fill it with soil, plant the seeds, add water and wait.

Rockwool isn't going to help you or make your plant grow any stronger or faster, just plant it in the soil.

The easiest method is to plant directly into your medium. Unless your dealing with old seeds or bag seeds, you can just plant it 1/4 inch below the surface and put it under some light until it pops the surface...just the way it would in nature.

If you're dealing with old/bag seeds, then soaking for 24 hours until they sink is a good way to help revive the seeds a bit. And then it's ok to use a paper towel, because you don't want to waste soil/rockwool on a seed that isn't going to germinate. So you can soak it and put it in a paper towel to test its viability.

But if they are seeds you purchased from a legitimate distributor/breeder, they should be fine to drop in your medium and germinate away. Why handle the delicate taproot and stress it more than necessary?

ive used just plain sponges in the past....the seed fit right in one of its holes and you only need to use a tiny corner of the sponge

now i started the old ones using double the amount of desert bat guano then reccomended on package (listened to a dumbass) i got completely fucked plants because of it. I am using fox farm ocean soil and wanted to know if bat guano is a good idea this time should i completely mix it in or layer it. I obviously will use directed amount.

Thanks that was very helpful i am going to plant directly into pots with no pre germ to try. Should u have the light on 18/6 i thought that they should be in complete darkness, does being under the soil count? Also is it alright to mix in the bat guano in the main pots for veg as well since i just wanted to start in 2 gal pots with fox farm and guano 2 tsp

yeh seriously,its ALL about slapping it straight into your grow medium,i grow in plagrons royalty mix soil,its supposed premium shit,and it certainly seems like i

i have only ever had 1 seed not germ by putting them in and watering the damn things(not too much obviously,and im gutted as the only failed seeds is an ak47 auto flowering female,grrrrrrr my current grow,3 easyryders 4 auto ak's and 1 roadrunner auto all came up super quick)

you can very very VERY easily damage root taps when germing then planting,its a bad idea in my opinion

theres no need to. you shouldnt be fertilizing that early anyway. im assuming your using cups or small pots to start your seeds in? Mix in the guano when you transplant after a couple weeks.
