Best LED for $400-$600?

Just to add some fuel to the fire I have a 3x3 tent and have a clw solar storm 440w I love the thing. I also have a clw 110 the out performs my Area 51 w100 but I have never run them side by side, my plants seem to like the clw (or at least I think they do).

I know it's expensive but it works and has a warenty and the uvb is a nice touch. Sure that guy can probably build a better one but I bet he hasn't tried a solar storm. But the only other panels I tried were a51. They worked fine, but i tend to prefer the clw. Again yeah it's expensive, but I'm just saying it grows great stuff for me.

How does one fixture 'outperform' another when you haven't attempted a side-by-side grow?

I've rarely heard anything good, if anything at all, about SolarFlair products so I'm a little perplexed when you unknowingly assume one product to be far more superior in comparison to another.

Example: You race against a clock and compare times.

You do them one after another instead of side by side. I've always found side by side grows to be somewhat pointless.
O, Churchy.

I had yet to consider this as a variable in the theoretical final comparison between two fixtures but is nonetheless a worthy factor in the wider scheme of things.

The examples I had in mind were like weight difference, quality difference (resin, bud size), plant health; just to name a few.

I was hoping he would have something more to offer us in terms of why he thought one outperformed the other.

could i take apart the mars panel and just get new parts? they say they use 5 watt crees. could i recycle those into a diy?

my bad, they use epistar 5 watters...

Well as i pointed out i have no scientific proof, nor do i have anything to prove to anyone here. Just ones thoughts. I can probably get you some pics if you give me your e mail, but I just dont post any pics of my stuff on line. I will happy to be discuss any of my grows with any of you, if you want to pm me I have run most of Dr. Greenthumbs gear. My Temp stays at 86 degrees with the ss440 and the supplemental r100 from area 51 (Since i stopped using it for veg and use the bloom booster solar flare). I have a vortex 6 inch fan with some expensive air filter that im sure i over paid for as well but works. lol.

As to why i switched to the solar flare. I was vegging with both in a tent, and when the plants grew they all grew towards the solar flare, so that is my only reasoning (Far from scientific or accurate) All the sprouts under the flare developed quicker (Probably was more genetics than anything)

But also take in account I dont really care about yield.... I can grow 2 plants in a cycle get a few oz's off each and have more than enough for myself with making BHO with the trim. So, thats pretty much it. I think there are far better options and configurations for LEDs but CLW work.

I really do not understand the "I dont care about yield" statement everyone makes. Why are you going LED? To be more efficient and save energy correct? If thats the case, then you should care about yield. If you are running an inefficient grow in say a 2'x2' area that produces 4 oz. when you could be producing 8 oz. in the same area, how is it efficient now? You are having to grow twice to equal 1 grow thus negating any energy savings you made by going to LED.

Just because you have a higher yield does not mean quality will suffer. How the fuck does quality suffer if yield is higher? Please explain that to me. If your buds are airy/light/fluffy, you are going to hurt in yield and the quality probably wont be as good. They kind of go hand in hand.

I don't grow light airy buds, but again I'm not here to prove that otherwise. Led are easier for me to run cooler. I have no problem keeping my tent 85. I never run out of meds and have plenty left over. If I needed more I'd run hps. Don't knock it if you didn't try it is all. Chill out man. Take it easy.

I never accused you of growing poor quality, mature buds. I am just making a point that everyone always talks about "quality" but it goes hand in hand with quantity. Just because you have an 12 inch long bud does not mean its going to be as dense as the next. Get what I am trying to say? To me, high quality stuff will have quality characteristics all around, including bud density.

Im very serious when I ask you this question. Why do you want to grow with LED if quantity is not of concern? Running cooler is right in line with efficiency and reduced energy costs. Its all the same in the end. Just because you go LED does not mean you will run cooler. Some LEDs run cooler than the next. According to your needs, seems you are using about 1/4 oz/week (maybe less). With a high quality COB LED fixture, you can yield in 1 grow what you will need all year, hence saving tons of money.

All Im saying is quantity is just important as quality, especially when you start talking LED and the cost of them. You say if you want quantity, youll run HPS. Thats where you obviously do not understand the power of the LED technology. You can grow just as much if not more with LED per watt than HPS without sacrificing quality.
