Best HPS bulb for Lumatek ballast.

Ew - a complete 400w digital dimmable aircooled setup costs $170 (hood, ballast, hangers, cords). I really really hope he didn't spend $550 for a 250w.

For a 600w or 1kW I would be in favor of the more expensive bulb. But there is a difference, a generic 250w bulb is $10, a hortilux is $124 - a 1000w generic is $80 and a hortilux is $130. For the 250w that's an increase of over 1000% in price, for the 1kW it's less than an increase of 100%...
LOL no way man. My local hydroponics shop has the 250w Lumatek dimmable for $99 or so, lamp cord and socket is another $15 plus another $15 for the sylvania bulb. I have no use for a reflector as I'll be running a vertical setup in a small tent.

I am half-assed following you.

@ 1lb / 1000w, I expect more than 179 grams off a 400w MH blue. I don't know the percentages but an extra half ounce off the MH Blue sounds like it wouldn't be hard to accomplish. It was $90 on ebay the other bulb is what? $20. $70 difference. An extra ounce, it would definetly be worth it.
Dude I am baked and eating as I type and I don't know numbers. And definetly ain't arguing.
With the thousand watter an extra few ounces would make that a sweet deal and I think they will yield it.

Really personal preference I guess. I'm reallizing I'm becoming a pot snob - $70 for the additional ounce doesn't interest me when the rest of the pot is only costing me $31 an ounce. I guess if I was selling smaller quantities the extra once computes.

With a 12.5% increas in yield (extra ounce/400w [email protected]/w) the yield for the 250w would be 122g versus 137g - an increase of 15g. With a difference of $13 (sylvania) versus $124 (horti) that's an extra 15g for $111 - $204 an ounce! Definitely not interested in an extra ounce for $204 when the rest costs $31/ounce.

Better bulb computes for some at the 400w level, others at the 600w level, commercial growers at the 1kW level, but at the 250w level I really don't see it being worth the extra money - better off taking the extra money and just buying bud.

I have three radiant hoods. 2 with 600w quantums and 1 with a lumatek. I have looked at the Ushio and Digilux, but always bought the hortilux. Hortilux doesn't make shit for 600 except the Super HPS. I would love to buy 600w MH Blue. All I need to do is after a few grows, when I replace my bulbs I will put my ebb n gro set-up with the same strain and do a hortilux, ushio, and (what is the best cheap 600W?). That is the only was I will know.

400HPS - Sylvania, GE, Philips from 1000bulbs
400MH - Sylvania, Philips (universal burn from 1000bulbs)
600HPS - GE (mdhydro.com)
1000HPS - Sylvania (plantlightinghydroponics.com), Sylvania and GE (1000bulbs)

Edit: FWIW, plantlightinghydroponics is usually my first stop for hardware. If you order, you may want to include "no signature required" in the comments. Otherwise, UPS needs a sig.

Damn $20 for a 92,000k 600w bulb... I was just getting ready to fork out $71 for a Ushio but now I'm second guessing...

I grew dank buds with the el-cheapo bulb that came with my ballast/reflector.... I see no reason to not try these for $20..

I wanted to follow up. I received my Ushio 400w HPS bulb today. It was $51...that included shipping....the base price was $39. I don't need to plug it in for a couple of weeks, but the packaging was great and upon inspection the bulb looks good. I received my bulb in about 4 buisness days and as I said I'm very happy with the packaging.
plantlightinghydroponics has a great selection and great prices. So far, I reccomend very highly. They had the lumatek, digilux and ushio and the best prices I saw.
