I have a few areas I would like to get more lighting too, From experience what bulbs have you found to work good for supplemental lighting?

Finally! (I'm like the Maytag repairman around here.).

I use Cree A19 9.5w (60w equiv) in tighter spaces, Cree PAR38 18w for top-ligting, side-light if there's more space. Spot if there's more space, flood if less. They have a focus of about 14" and 8", respectively.

I wrote more about them:

A19:

PAR38:

Don't use the plastic "4Flow" bulb. You want the glass globe, cooling fins around the base, 10 year warranty.

I am growing vegging under 4 A19s now. I grew a plant entirely under PAR38s and A19 sidelighting. About 21w/sq ft.

I think someone used Phillips and liked them.

Thanks,
I was thinking of maybe some floods or spots in each corner of a 4x4.

I think you'll be happy with them. Closer with floods is probably more efficient due to the light-squared phenomon of loss. I think the 18w PARs are better than 18w (100w equiv) A21 omnidirectional bulbs mounted in reflectors. That's why I only do 9.5w A19 omnis in reflectors. I don't see much in-between for directional lighting. But, if I wanted to drop a light down the middle of a 4x4 tent to sidelight within, I might use stronger omnis without reflectors.

SMD5630 strip lights might be something to look at. They're supposed to be a little more efficient than these Crees. But, a lot of the stuff sold on Amazon and eBay may be nasty Chinese epi-whatever junk. I've seen the real stuff sold for $100 per 5-meter spool. I've been tempted to by 1 meter of that and a spool of the Amazon/eBay stuff to see if there's a difference (if it's worth it).

I'm really sold on sidelighting, more diffuse sources of light compared to single points. If I hadn't already gotten into these bulbs I'd be spearheading the SMD5630 movement. There were some threads about it in the past, but nobody seems to have taken it as their "thing" to champion the way captainmorgan did Cree lightbulbs (and I glommed onto).
