Best Coffee Shops in Amsterdam

Which coffee shops would you most recommend in Amsterdam?

There's a lot of dives there!

Does anyone recognise this one? I was honestly too stoned to remember the names of anywhere we went, we kind of just followed instinct lol. It seems very much like a English pub inside, but obviously with a much better atmosphere. Tobacco is allowed here.


There was this other one down a side street, that was small, very open plan with the doors wide open. It was all leather, steel and big wooden tables and looked, well, like a actual COFFEE shop, with the cash register back and center. Tobacco not allowed and really nice space cakes, Madeira sponge.

I'm still scouring the Internet to find put what they were called, but they were both only 5, 10 mins from Centraal without being hugely expensive. Sorry I can't be most useful -_-;

a bit of a walk from the main train station but walking around that city isn't something you won't enjoy.

Yeah man, I agree. LOTS of dives there. Grey Area is certainly one of them. It's a get in, get your weed, and move on kind of place. Very small.

I've been to Amsterdam many times and I never found one that I returned to every trip. What I can suggest for something a little different is to catch a train to Haarlem/Zandvoort. Get off in Haarlem and there is a decent coffee shop close to the train exit. I can't remember the name of it but you can figure it out. Go on market day and take a stroll down to the main square. There are other shops around and in the square itself is a place that has outstanding frites (french fries). I don't remember the names of any of these places but plenty of information can be found on the web if you're interested.

Get baked and fed then go catch the next train to Zandvoort. There's a nice big shop just a bit of a walk from the station there. I didn't purchase any gear but I hung out there for a while. Sorry I can't remember the name of that place either but not a lot of shops nearby so you won't have any problem finding it with a little bit of research. Also, Zandvoort is on the North Sea so you can walk out to the boardwalk, find a bench and ponder how cool it is to be sitting there while toasted. You have to blaze up another one on the bench though. It's mandatory, weather permitting.

Yeah, the Grey Area is definately a dive, but has some of the best smoke in the 'dam

hill street blues is a comfy place for a smoke and to leave a calling card. just next to the red light district

do they let non residents in the shops now? ive seeen a bunch of articles saying its not allowed for the tourists anymore

The dutch aren't stupid enough to cut off their biggest tourist draw. They aren't granting new licenses for coffeeshops meaning if one wasn't baught out but closed. No one could re open it to sell dope.

There's no booze sold in the cafes now. Which sucks but you can see the logic in it. There are still some bars which don't mind you smoking tho
