Just got a decent amount of money from my havest and i only have room for one light so i wanna get the best one money can buy. I heard the new Diamond series bulbs from Advannced Nutrients are the way to go as far as lamps but what would you guys recomend for the ballast and hood?

Im also interested in buying a good grow tent. Any ideas as far as a good grow tent goes?

I agree with him on the solis tek but make it a matrix . hortilux super hps lamp, choice of your wattage if you get the matrix ballast that is.

Here is a bulb test(1000w but the basically same for 600w) that shows most popular bulbs all in the OG hood on a phantom ballast
http://growershouse.com/blog/hid-bulb-test-comparison-review-hortilux-ushio-digilux-baddass-solistek-lumatek-maxlume-growlite-ultra-sun/
Hortilux super hps is still champ

Here is another test that shows ballast...but not using overdrive feature so some have some more to give
http://growershouse.com/blog/1000w-digital-ballast-comparison-review-par-test-footprint-results-lumatek-solis-tek-quantum-phantom-galaxy-nano/
Slois tek has the best

And lastly is the best hoods test
http://growershouse.com/blog/8-og-vertical-reflector-vs-8-raptor-reflector-by-hydrofarm/
The OG is the most intense by far...but coverage is lower. Raptor has the best spread of any big hood.

Actually the gavita is the best light hps available...but not air cooled so probably wont work for a tent. and speaking of the tent, either will the raptor or og hoods probably, cause of their size.

Look into CMH. A 330w phillips allstart on a cheap 400w mag ballast puts out more light as a top end digital 600w hps. They also have the best growing spectrum available in an HID bulb. And these are ridiculously cheap(cause they run on 400w mag ballast)...and you are getting an amazing light.

Ultrasun's are champ of the cheap lamps . I actually turned my nose up at a hortilux 600 watt super hps the other day and bought a ultrasun 600 instead. of course before I even took it out of the box my ass was up throwing it and another 40 bux to J at the hydro store for the hortilux.
I do run a 7500 k ultrasun mh though. seems a nice lamp

Money no object, solis tek ballast or hortilux ballast, a horti or ushio bulb. Spend the reflector money on a vert setup i wish i did when i did my upgrade. Btw the 13% more efficent thing for 600s is a thing of the past 1000s bulbs now put out 145k lumens a 600 puts out 88k(hortilux specs) thats 145 lumens per watt for the 1000, 146 lumens per watt with the 600. Thats 0.5% more efficient. Keep in mind allot of 1000 watt ballasts and bulbs cost the same or more as 1000 watt stuff. One last thing many overlook is the fact the arc tube for a 1000 is almost twice as long

Personally I've been hearing REALLY good things about the PHILLIPS GAVITA 600.

My old dealer LOVES them.

Really good info guys but im having a hard time not going with the setup that TAG outlined in his post. All ballasts, bulbs, and hoods they tested where all ones i was of considered buying. After seeing the test results i belive im going to go with that exact setup he reccomended. I was planning on the Matrix for a ballast anyway and i have no preference for a hood but after seeing the OG reflector im gonna have to go with that one. I wanna keep things low key so i may go with a 400watt. Any pros or cons between the 600 and 400 watt?

gtran, wish I had time to throw up a pic of my baby, you would definatly luv it! I invested a good harvest a couple yrs. back, 6 solis-tek matrix', 6 8" raptor's a powerbox duel zone control panel with trigger cord's for each zone and was able to finish it off this year by picking up 2 gorilla tent's at the max. yield expo in novi, michigan back in june I think it was. Dude at the gorilla display, kip I think his name was, hooked me up FAT! with a 8'x8' & a 10'x10'. Bulb wise I like to run hortilux duel arc's super blue 1000w but also like to mix it up with hort's ne 1000w Mh blue's ,1000w super hps' I also have a couple of solis-tek's lamp's and have no complaint's about them either.I have a couple 10" ram inline's and tried and am very happy with mountain air's carbon filters. The only thing that I am really unhappy about is when I have to go to freak'n WORK! total BS!!! I think I could actually live in my 10x10 flower boom room! just picked up some 400&600w hortilux Mh&HPS yesterday, wanting to see if it is cost effective to start with smaller and move up as needed, now with tent's am wanting to look into some Co2. sorry, i'm rambling, sound's to me ur on the can't go wrong track! b safe & good luck!

Please man ramble on, some might find it weird but im very invested in my plants and my equipment. If it was up to me i would be in the woods right now building the most insane grow house i could afford............but unfortunatly certain people in my life would be very upset if that was the case, soooo for now a small set-up will have to do. I figure a between the ballast, hood, and bulb, i still wont even come close to a grand, might as well right? I have three widows and a ILP of the mendo purps going and im very excited for this harvest. Tell me what you think man.

why did you hack the leaves off?? you dont do that until you harvest it.. if it was ment to come off it would have fell off.

with that being said...

depending on what equipment you get a quality setup will run about 1k

a quality soils tek ballast is about 250...
a good quality reflector is about another 2-250
and a bulb.. you want a good bulb.. 60-80?
this doesnt include inline fan , filter, loupe, mason jars etc.. all the little petty shit you need
not to mention a tent too if you want.

Better light penetration. I leave all the leafs surrounding the buds and its been working for me for years now. I have all the fans. jars, etc so im only looking at about 5-600 for bulbs, ballast, and hood. Hopefully a top of the line light system will increase the yeilds.

you removing the leafs it isnt getting as much energy like it needs. you will likely increase yield if you leave them.

Ive never heard of anyone use or even mention a hortilux ballast. I know there bulbs are some of the best around so it would make sense that they have high quality ballasts but im curious why ive never seen them used or even hear them talked about. I have heard alot about the new solis tek ballasts as far as there quality and dependability. Side side testing shows there the best by a long shot.
