Belkin Wemo Switch Review

works So just thought I'd share my experience with my Belkin Wemo insight switch. The idea behind this switch is that it connects to the Internet and can be located controlled via a smart phone app

Setting up, the device was touchy and had to have the app restarted a couple times until I finally got it set up on the router. The app in general is unstable, requiring restarts frequently at times. After finally getting it setup with remote access (to access outside your home network), and setting rules up via inside the app, time to see how well it actualay works.

Rules were to go on for 12 hours, notify me that the light went on, shut off after 12 hours, notify me again once it was shut off via app.
Well, that didn't work. The rules to turn on did work, but it didn't notify me. Began reading about another feature one can set up called if this than that. Which I highly recommend using even outside this application, it's pretty cool. The rules worked much better with both notifications and actually turning the light on and off.

Now the problem begins with the device's app being inconsistent, and I truly wish there was a means to simply access via Web browser to set up the rules. An app only seems to only hinder the market needs for such a device. Now the bigger problem with this device is how shitty it is with wifi. The device can and will randomly drop the connection and in turn stop applying the rules set to it. This is a huge fail for the ways we'd want to use this product. My lights failed to go on and failed to go off over the week I tried the product.

So for those wanting a way to monitor a device and remote control it, this product still has some catching up to do.

Just thought I'd share my experience.

I had similar problems with that product, bought a WiFi Plug instead which works much better in my experience. App is much more stable and easy to use, for starters.

Yeah, tried one of these and found much the same. They're not ready for prime time. My thought was to use it as an NFT timer since the app allows custom schedules and they're about 1/2 of what a fixed 1 On/4 OFF timer costs. Problem I found besides the unstable app is that they limit you to 10 programs so it's basically useless for what I had in mind. oh well, another piece of useless technology in the pile :(

What exactly did you end up using to get your setup going? Im still in the market for such a thing to control lighting, fans and heating remotely/ on schedule
