Beginners question

Ok so I have read a bunch of the stickies and tried to absorb it all, from the sounds of it the plants are quite sensitive and it is an art to get them to grow properly.. Given that right now in this part of the world it is summer (vegetation state) and will soon be autumn (flowering state) is it worth me just putting a couple of seeds in a pot and letting them go to see what happens without lots of care and attention? Obviously with a bit of fertilizer and watering as needed.

Otherwise I guess I am looking at a very simplified and cheap indoor setup. I am not looking for anything big, in fact 1-2 plants for personal use is basically legal here so thats really all I am looking for.

Check out cfl tutorial if you don't want to go with HID lights. These plants will grow in alot of fucked up situations The art is making them produce a good amount of thc and yeild. Just remember good lights good nutes air circulation water an some TLC and you will do fine. Get your first grow out of the way so you can learn what to do better next time around

Sounds like it is too late in the season to start outdoor.

go for the indoor. Plants growe way faster and produce IMO more potent thc due to your control of everything

Yeah ok indoors I will do. Just figured it might be ok to chuck a couple seeds in the backyard and see what happens. I definitely want to start small, really hope I get at least one out of 2 females... Its a loooong process to wait!

HID lights sound like the best option. Do they get really hot? Do you buy them from light stores or hydroponic stores? I will go for them if the price is ok, otherwise will stick with fluorescent. This is really low scale stuff... Just want a bit of fun occasionally.

hid's do make alot of heat and use more electric and are more expensive to run, you'll get hid's from a hydro shop depends which way you want to go and your cicumstance's

I always say that the target yield for your first grow is how much you learn not how much bud you get. Start small and simple, learn from mistakes and your future yields will benefit greatly. I would not start out with hps. Get a good cfl setup, 42w are best in clamp reflectors. Ask Qs in the cfl forum.
