I'm using the two rubbermaids stacked method. The plant is gaining size, before it touches the sides can I trim the fan leaves? I also plan on topping it soon.

Cool, I don't plan on adding more lights in such a tight spot. No side lights in this operation either, so I can trim the lower fan leaves and the plant shouldn't slow down all that much, right?

from my personal experience trimming the lower fan leaves allows much more light to reach the bottom-center of the plant causing more healthy growth. although i'm sure other people will disagree. you spend the most time with your plant, do what you think it needs.
