Beer is a growers friend... in more ways than one

how funny..............I was actually contemplating it myself the other day.

Knowing that beer contains very simple sugars (the carbs in the beer) as well as some other goodies. I didnt think that there was any live bacteria in it though.

If any of you have smelled rotting beer youd know it was true. Ive had the unpleasant experience of actually smelling rotting beer. Yes it gets nasty if there are massive volumes of it left to decompose.

I wont say how I know this, I just know it.

Good post. I would like to see a grow divided in half though. One half non beer to one half with beer to see the differences. Its surely an expensive way to feed your weeds. Recycling a bunch of it from parties is cool but who wants to have that many people at your house that often?

Not me!

My husband drinks beer, and what I did was take a couple of milk jugs, one for the upstairs fridge and one for downstairs (Dave's always working on something in the garage, and his buddy is often there with him, drinking beer, too). I marked them, Seamaiden's Left-Over Beer--Special Brew (I made it look like a beer label and everything). The dregs get dumped into those jugs. I haven't even got two gallons yet, but, what the heck, I can add it to my teas I've been making.

I'm not sure, but I thought yeast were a fungus... I'm always confused about the yeastie beasties.

I had no idea beer could rot. :? :x ew.

rotting beer smells worse than typical hot nasty garbage. Keep it cool and dark and preferably capped in a spare fridge.

Yes. Thusly, the jugs in the upstairs and garage refrigerators. :D My FAVORITE are the hefeweizens that aren't filtered. 8)

right... so can i use Cider instead of beer? im on about the non-carbonated bad boy farmhouse cider, being made on the farm it must be 100% organic (correct me if im wrong). and would using carbonated cider from the general shop work too?

Yes, you can use any low alcohol content, adult beverage. Even wine coolers.
.
I would not buy them just to feed. I just started this thread, to show how you can use left over party booze. Recycling is good for the environment.

Keep it Real...Organic...Cheers...

No, I've only recently even heard of Hygrozyme.

To the previous guy who asked about what kinds of beer, I don't think it actually matters. Just make sure no one stuck their ciggie butts in it. I hate it when that happens!

Ohsogreen is right. My uncle has used beer in the majority of his indoor and outdoor grows. All of his plants are full and bushy and the buds are oh-so-beautiful! Beer+Growing=Always a good decision.

beer of good quality is organic full of co2 in solution(carbonic acid) and b vitamins particularly some b-1 which we all now is important. the alcohol content is too low to kill microorganisms you cant sterilize things with beer and it is full of trace elements this varies of course with which beer you use. when the alcohol breaks down it is a carbohydrate in the form of sugar usable by plants and animals. i see no harm in adding quality beer to soil grows. beer was originally found to be a good food because it was free of undesirable pathogens it does contain organisms none of which are harmfull to anything (unlike water of the day) and it is calorie dense. as an irishman and and athlete cannabis and beer are the only substances i allow in my body as both are beneficial within reason. as for my plants i may try some dilluted beer in my normal fert regimen. what i suggest for anyone trying this would be guinness it is very very high in trace elements calories and b-vitamins more than other beers i know of.:peace:

I'm doing this tonight. I used to pour beer in my garden mainly when I was drunk and thought my plants wanted beer for fun....what can I say i drink a lot of beer.

I bet some left over Chimay would be perfect, highly carbonated and a bit higher in alcohol plus its packed and packed with flavor.

Next experiment...feeding my plants regularly with Shroom tea. Can it make trippy bud? we will see...
Speaking of experiments totally off topic...I plan to brew a beer with shrooms...see if I can make trippy beer. I believe this can actually work.

Recycling and composting kicks ass by the way.

During the brew process when you add spices just throw a bunch of caps in there. Makes it into a tea right? don't know if it would work but i'm def gonna try it just haven't gotten around to making a stash of shrooms...just been busy with growing, my first cannabis grow had to deal with all the setup issues with that. but i think it can be done

I don't know... is the active ingredient water or alcohol soluble? My suggestion, hold back on the hops (I don't care for the flavor of hops m'self). Might as well give it a try, yeah? :D

Water soluble for sure people make shroom tea all the time...this is going to be my winter project if it works that would be something else. anyway im hijacking this thread lets get back to organics
