Is the generator for backup purposes, or so you can now be "off the grid"?? And I think you are absolutely correct about the girls being ok...not everyday is bright and sunny all the time.

Yes they are fine to miss a days light. My gf once turned my lights off by mistake, and rather than stress them further by switching the lights back on I just left them till the next day.

PS: Generator pics please, how much did it cost ya? I was told you could get a decent gen at like costcos, sams place etc... for under a hundred bucks, sounds too good to be true...

Thanks for all of the concern guys..... I truly appreciate it:hump::hump:

So, I took the Honda generator back today.... Dog gone thing won't run the heater in the house, barely had enough umph to run lights. Lesson learned - be prepared to spend around $3,000 for something that will let you have your heater, grow lights, and maybe a bit of music. The heater is what kills the deal.

What I did get which I think is Uber kewl is a fan for my wood stove which works on the differential between the heat from the stove and the ambient air temperature. Don't you know I'm thinking MacGyver, here is an exhaust fan that doesn't take any electricity.

Anyhow, storm is upon me, winds outside are in excess of hurricane speed, without a doubt my power will be down. This is gonna get exciting.

Pictures early next week.

I'm at a Starbucks :(

Had to evacuate at 6:00pm today Sunday. Tried to evacuate yesterday but was stranded.

Power went off early Friday evening...Hung sheets to 'create a space' 12x13' and in that space, the dog, cat, bird and me. Outside temps were in the teens and wind was blowing at hurricane #4 (+120mph)..... Fuck it.

Totally bummed to the maximum.

You all know how I love pictures.... These are from earlier today.... Calling your attention to the icicles - see how they are blown to the left? Think the winds were strong?....... Here is the stove with the kewl-est fan, the one powered by heat, I'm gonna buy another one of these... Beyond UBER kewl, damn thing worked and it moves 200cfm..... Had the clones in the light, they are still on the table but the shades are closed....... This was the temperature in my kitchen at 2:30 this afternoon..... Picture looking out the door was Friday afternoon and the snow was a little more than 1/2 way up.

Later.

Box of Buds didn't fare all that well, all plants are showing obvious signs of frostbite. I manicured the worst leaves, in the silly hope the remaining would recover, but I'm not all that confident.

The plants in Veg mode appear to have done better, they are all showing initial signs of going to bud.... Therefore, I'm gonna change the light from 18/6 to 24/- in the hope of getting them back into Veg.

Clones in soil, looked like shit earlier but don't look at that bad right now, after a drink and some light and heat.

Clippings are still too early to determine, some look ok and others not. Time will tell.

Box of Buds is 5 weeks in.... so I'm gonna try my best. Otherwise....snip, snip and let's see what the heck we got.

This could be a long rant.... I dunno

I've had a day to evaluate and think about what to do and what worked.

The Good
Appears the ghetto grow _ propps to Koosh _ since it was made out of cardboard worked real well to protect the plants from the cold. Cardboard is a heck of an insulator and boy did it work.
:hump: I think it was the sole reason for not having frostbite in the grow area. *Note to self: Insulation-Something to think about.

Plants and Clones overall appear visually okay. Look 100% better than yesterday. :)

The Bad
Core temperature of roots was 48° in clay pots and 51° in plastic containers. I took the flat end of a spoon and make a slot where I could push my digital thermometer into the soil. Wasn't too encouraged :(

The Ugly
Box of budz didn't have the 'front door' installed like the other two :( . Only had a blanket hanging over the door area :( :(

There were 3 plants in bud.... 2 in the back and one centered in the front, closest to the opening.

First plant is frostbite toast. Gonna turn the pot upside down tomorrow am. Of the remaining 2, not sure yet what I've got.

Shoudda, Woudda, Coudda
Should have invested in a computer UPS and have at least 1 CFL in each box powered by the UPS. 75 watts is not a lot of power.

Would have put the 'door' on the Box of Budz but blew it off _ :wall: :wall:

Could have moved everything from the basement to an upper level where it was warmer.

So maybe this is God's way of telling me to stay outside and don't screw around with this indoor stuff. I could get real snarky and say something bad about indoor grows and growers but.... I'm not into that. I'm into killer weed and the never ending search for 'The Gagger':hump:, plus I truly believe we haven't seen the the final few steps in the process of indoor grows. We are close but 'no cigar yet'. And when we finally figure out the missing link(s) between outdoor and indoor that is when the indoor grows will probably gain a slight edge _ due primarily to technology _ over the outdoor people. I don't want to be left behind.

*Of course, these are my opinions and I could be wrong :blsmoke:

Man you have earned the right to rant my brother!

Let it all out and let the RIU potheads.......err Farmers help wash away the problems!

You can't quit on the indoor stuff, I can't do outdoor, who will guide me?

At least there is some good news, you obviously could have lost the entire set, but you didn't! Be sure to autopsy the one you are turning upside down, might be a good way, with a very sharp knife, maybe a bread knife? to get a look at exactly where the roots are and what they are doing as they will be frozen in time. You could cut off thin layers and analyze!!

Hell I might just put the next male I get out in the cold for that exact purpose, so even the bad maybe isn't even all bad?

You've come oup with a lot of Ideas from this, bet you won't make any of those mistakes again, correct? And you got away with it to some degree.

Sorry the blizzie is started to speaky.

guess I ranted over your rant, you're up!

thank you for the props haha. just think if this blizzard didnt happen and you didnt have these setbacks. a grow indoors without hitches, and you get some killer smoke, you might be like indoors aint too bad.
