battery back-up aerator (bubbler) if lights go out????

i have seen some battery back up bubble systems to keep plants alive if the power goes out but i cant find it now.

anyone know of a similar product?

You might be able to use a UPS intended for a home computer.



These rather inexpensive units contain a gel cell lead-acid battery which will run a 400W home computer for about 10 min or a 40W air pump for 100min. If a car battery (or preferably a marine deep-cycle or golf car battery) is connected in place of the small internal battery, backup time could be a few days.

They are a bit expensive on that site, try ebay. I would give that pump 5 stars.

Another way to do it would be to get a small 12V power inverter, normally used in cars & RVs to make line voltage AC (120V or 240V, depending on your area), connect it to a car or deep-cycle battery, which is then also connected to the AC mains via a charger. If AC power drops out, there will be AC power from the inverter available until the battery is dead. I have seen 150W inverters for about $50 at the local electronics gadget shop.

$69 for 28 hours of backup sounds like a pretty good deal, well spotted.

My only concern is whether the pump diaphragm and valves are user-replaceable, as is often the case with inexpensive aquarium air pumps. I get spare diaphragms and valves with each el-cheapo pump. The natural rubber diaphragms usually last me about 8-12 mos.

they are, I refurbish them at work. You can get whole rebuild kits for under 5 bucks through azoo.

the pet shop has the battery airpumps for power out emergencys!

Sounds like a bargain! The vast majority of power outages will be under 28h, this looks like a good, well priced solution.
