Basic SOG/Lighting Question

so i have about 9 sprouts at the moment that are under 2 flourescent lights, not sure on the specs, and i want to eventually grow a SOG under my 400w hps.. i was wondering at which stage of the sprouts development do i want to be transitioning them over to the hps, what height it should be at in the beginning, and if i should be topping any of them in the early stages of their development.

i will post pictures tomorrow of how they look so far and if you have any suggestions on the setup it would be greatly appreciated as i am a complete noob when it comes to this lol

Depends on your tent size and size of your light

well im just using a closet that's about 3ft deep and 9 ft wide so im thinking i could get away w a 3x5 area maybe? eventually ill split the closet in half and have two lights, one for flowering, one for veg.

i guess my main question is, how soon until i should move them under the hps ? the rest i can play with and figure out as time goes on what i should be doing to maximize growth

General rule, provided you not using clones anytine, 6-8" for a seedling. Dont get the light closer that 14" for the grow. Then drop to 12" away in bloom, how good is ur ventilation, temp at the canopy? Provided it stays at 28 degrees C you should have no probs with those distances.

Think in grow if the plant has to stretch up to a light a little bit father away, it will work harder to get what it wants, and in turn grow taller . And when you bud, tie or net them down and let all the leaves get blasted from a foot away. Good luck

if i was you i would put them in at 6 inches tops and put the light as close as possible... put your hand under so you know how hot it is so u wont burn them.. the higher you put the light the more they stretch ....

what ive always been told is that you should veg under your t5 until flower time then switch to the hps cause if you veg under HPS it will cause plants to get lanky and stretched if you have the ability the best to veg under would be a MH... but so just use the t5 for veg and then switch to HPS for flower
