Basement or Spare Room?

Hello all

Here is a question more regarding odor. If I have a small townhouse, 2-3 bedroom upstairs, a main floor and a small basement, and I was not going to exhaust outside (so the exhaust would be carbon filtered and go into the house) would basement be better because its farther away from where most people would be, or because the spare room is on the 2nd floor, would that be better as the hot air should rise and not go back down?

Also, if I did find a way to exhaust the air outside of my house, wouldn't that be more obvious since people walking by the house would smell it vs having to actually come into the house to be able to smell it?

thanks

You said you have a scrubber? if so just vent the room outside.

keep it in the house if you can, you can use the heat to warm another room
and there is less noise etc outside the property, its more discreet
the extracted air once filtered should not smell anyway
i vent from room to room, the air coming from the filter has no odor
so it shouldn't matter really

the smell will leak out of the grow room itself this will still smell where the plants are
unless its always closed off from the rest of the house smell will leak out

if you control all the air in and out, with closed doors around the grow, you can control the smell very well

both have their advantages and disadvantages i would say spare room, because basements unfinished ones can be moldy and damp unless you decide to get a grow tent, that could be a good option for you

I used to use a grow tent in another basement and use a carbon scrubber but still once flowering hit the smell went throughout the whole house. Now the scrubber I was using was a cheap no name brand off ebay, but since many use homemade scrubber's I would imagine the ebay ones would work just as well.....maybe I should double filter it? Have one scrubber inside the tent from the first point of extraction, then outside the tent after it passes through the inline fan, set up a homemade scrubber to filter through again? Or would that be not necessary?

Sounds like you need to replace the carbon. I would just put it on one side of the hood and a fan on the other sucking and vent the tent and hood right out a window. If the carbon is good there should be no smell.

if you want to control the smell effectively so it does not smell all round your house,
you have to control all the airflow around the plants or grow them in a closed space
with a large negative pressure or active inlet this stops smell leaking out of the room the grow is in
this requires powerful fans any little gap that air can come in from, will also allow air to escape
the negative pressure in most setups is just not strong enough to control all the air flow some will escape
which will allow smell to escape

the carbon filter will remove the smell from the air that is extracted out
if you can still smell weed coming from the extracted carbon filtered air, something is wrong
you need to match the fan with the filter on m3 or cfm

I grow in a basement, but I also rent out a commercial building to grow in. I grow in a closed environment. all air stays in the building, no exhausting to the outside.
