Barney's Gorilla Zkittlez

Just catching up on your journal, looks great! I currently have a plant with a stalk that is flat like two fused together, oddly enough its Barney's 8 Ball Kush.
Weird that's too coincidental to just be random. Have you started flowering yet? You can see it in the second pic I just uploaded, there's very little bud on the top but it has quite a bit underneath. I have no idea how much is on the other one since it's in a spot that's difficult to access.

Sorry that took so long, opened the tent and got involved in doing some things that needed to be done. Also I played hell trying to get a picture of the stem itself.

Thats the best I could get, its about a half inch wide.

This is also the only plant that throws out the weird yellow leafs, only in certain spots too.

Yup that looks exactly like mine. I didn't have the colour variation like you have in your leaves. The four bud sites at each node are growing normally for me so it's not a total loss. Do you think the top bud will be good for making edibles or bubble hash? I think it has too many leaves and would taste terrible if smoked.

I don't know. I agree about the not smoking that one, when I first noticed the stem during veg I almost cut it off but figured I would let it be and just watch it. Maybe I'll trim it up as good as I can and give it to a guy I know, just for a laugh!

lol that's mean!

I read this article on Royal Queen Seeds. I'm not sure if I believe it or not. Increased THC production would be sweet, but my plant with the largest polyploid bud is also the smallest of the two plants.

POLYPLOIDISM
Polyploids in nature are organisms that possess double the number of chromosomes than their non-mutant genetic twins. This trait can sometimes be fixed into plant species via selective breeding. Cannabis plants can spontaneously develop polyploidism. It can also be induced in plants via treatment with a powerful chemical called colchicine.

This is a hugely useful trait for significantly increasing THC production, as well as yield. Extra-large plants produce extra-large buds, of course. At this time, there are no true-breeding strains with this mutation that have been stabilised.

This polyploid stuff appears to be happening with more then one seed company LG? It’s so weird. Sorry to hear about the nanners you pulled out. Could polyploidism be from overbreeding I wonder. There is so much crossing of strains these days I can’t keep up with all the names it’s like out of control. And now these new weird flowering abnormalities. Crazy stuff. Can’t wait for the smoke critiques! Thanks lg! I love your grow journal!

Thanks @Dr.Amber Trichome I'd just be guessing, you are right about the selection out there... and it's hard not to get drawn into the hype. I don't have a lot of grows under my belt and haven't seen a polyploid prior to this grow. I'm not too bent out of shape about the nanners on that bud. I didn't find any other nanners while trimming

The plants came down on Saturday. This was by far my largest harvest to date which is kinda crazy considering I grew half that plants as I did previously. I had help for the first hour of trimming then I was on my own. It took about six hours and I started getting sloppy towards the end. I left the polyploid bud from the largest plant hanging untrimmed. I'll look after that next weekend.

I don't know if there's any direct correlation between wet and dry weights. I weighed the wet bud yesterday and the smallest plant came out at 1007 grams and the largest came out at 974 grams plus the large untrimmed bud that's hanging in the tent. I never thought I'd be trimming two kilos of wet bud lol. I ended up with a good amount of sugar leaf and the largest plant had a lot of fluffy bud at the bottom of the canopy that I didn't bother trimming or weighing.

Gotta say I'm pretty thrilled with the results.

I started the next generation of plants on Sunday and they should be ready to go back into the buckets next weekend. I'm just going to continue to use this journal thread for my next grow.

Wow that’s a lot of smoke! Congratulations!!
I love that black hanging basket . What brand is it and where did you get it.? I need to get one of those!
Good luck with the chocolate mint. Looking forward to seeing how that one shapes up.

Thanks, can't wait to sample it. I'm going to use @Thundercat 's paper bag drying method. I bought a bunch of paper bags and I'll move the buds to that in a week or so. I've never really had amazing tasting weed.

I got the rack on Amazon. This one was Opulent Systems https://shorturl.at/jrHSU , but there's a dozen other Chinese companies selling them. I'm not really a fan of this one. The zippers are a PITA and it's hard to just grab a handful and pull it out through the small opening. @DustyDuke pointed out that my rack was too small so I ordered a new one that doesn't have such high sides and it's eight trays instead of four https://shorturl.at/bkvMW.

Nicely done LG, that's a great grow and a helluva nice harvest. I'm in for the next one, and I'm interested to see what the dry weight and quality of this one ends up being.

LG,
Great to see you crossed the finish line with flying colors!
Congrats on a killer grow.
I hope the smoke is to your liking.
And looking forward to your continued journal.
Cheers,

Thanks guys!

I've grossly over estimated my dry weights every time which lead to disappointment, especially on my last grow. This is the first time I've weighed my buds wet. It looks to be almost double my last grow with half as many plants, so I'm guessing between 400-450 grams, but I could be way, way off.

The chocolate mint og seeds were popped when I got up this morning so I'm on schedule to get them into the buckets this weekend. I'll post the final weights and some glam shots this weekend.

Oh I see. I have done the paper bag method once with killer results and last time shitty results. How are you going to do the paper bags? Fill them up and how often do you open them? I did an awesome job once with big fat buds and last time with the smaller buds they dried out to fast. Some say to close the paper bags and not open for a week. Others say to air them out for a bit everyday. What are you going to do? When I did it for my big ass buds I didn’t open up for several days but noticed a little bud rot and mold on the biggest thickest buds. But overall it was hella successful and So damn good that I had my dealer begging for every last trichome to sell to his drooling pack of stoner wolves. That was when I was peaking as a grower. It’s been down hill since then. But I’m looking to possibly gain some momentum and head back up to being a top performer again . Thank you for your help and inspiration!

Thundercat gave me this advise on my first grow and I regret not following it. I have several jars of northern lights that taste kinda like hay. The only thing I'm not really clear about is how much bud I should put into the bag. I bought paper lunch bags and I was guessing maybe an ounce per bag. I'm going to hit him up for some more advice when I'm done drying.

I'm struggling with really low humidity in my basement right now. It's at about 39%. I have a bucket with an airstone running in my tent and it's keeping the humidity at about 55% so hopefully it doesn't dry too fast in the rack. My buds aren't what I'd consider huge, they've already shrank quite a bit. Hopefully I don't experience any bud rot.

You know your weed is awesome when you have a dealer begging for you stash!

I also suggest playing with different trimming and drying techniques. I've tried a bunch of experiments over the years to get me to what works best for me. I find wet trimming way easier, but usually dry trimming gives me a much better flavor. Which created my happy medium of removing all the leaves with visible stems(only leaving the sugary bud leaves) and usually I break down the branches into manageable buds and then dry on a screen in an area with air flow, but not air blowing on the buds. Usually it takes 6-8 days for the buds to feel "crispy" on the outside, but I can tell they are still damp inside. I take them and put them into a brown paper bag and give it a little shake, and then let them sit till the next day when I open the bag stir them around and check on them, and then close it up again. Usually within about 2-3 days the buds are perfectly dried and have balanced humidty so they smoke great and taste awesome. At this point they are ready for jars or bags for storage. I've NEVER had mold in a jar.
