I have a 1000w Luminator magnetic ballast.I plugged it in on Monday and it buzzes really loud not humming.Do some magnetic ballasts do this or does mine have a problem.I contacted tech. support they said it could be a bad igniter, contacted the company I bought it from(igrowhydro.com) they said some magnetics are really loud that they are annoying. The bulb lights but it flickers for a milli second.I just want to know if I'm stuck with this buzzbox or if there's a problem. Please any input will be greatly appreciated

You could return it, but the next one may be just as loud. My old magnetic ballast was a buzz-monster. Suuuuuuucked! It resonated in my garage and you could even hear it outside by the mail-box (i live in a condo with a community mail-box).

My new digitals are completely silent.

Thanks for the input I'm gonna save up for a digital and keep the buzzer for a backup

Ive heard of people making a box around the ballast itself and having a fan run through it to keep the sound down, just insolate the shit out of it basically, and have it sit on a foam pad.. not sure how well that would work

you could try to lessen the buzz,1st put it on a rubber pad & see if that helps.next open it up,make sure it is UNPLUGGED,also be aware the cap will hold a charge & even unplugged,it can zap you if not careful.(its the round thing w/ 2 wires) is anything loose? is the ballast(the big heavy part) attached to the metal case? when running,it will vibrate & if not secured tightly,it will cause the buzz. rubber grommets or washers between it & the case might help.make sure it & the case stay grounded.
be aware that opening the case will violate any warranty.
