Bagseed to Good High - The Journey

Well well well, I have decided to start this up mostly for references, but also for discussion, tips, advice, or anything else that can come out of it. So you do NOT have to ask if you can post, I will NOT mind.

So there I was one day, thinking about growing some weed for myself. I thought about it, but deep inside I knew it wouldn't happen. Well well...I talked myself out of it, and already have a large portion of my grow box completed, along with a smaller box that I'll use for clones or to get seeds from as well. My grow box is going to cost around $300, so I'm hoping that it works out well.

I won't go too far into that right now, since this is in fact a journal so I'll get to it later when the time comes to go pick the stuff up and construction starts.

So, I bought 2 quarter bags and took the seeds since I decided to start growing while I started on the second bag, luckily I still had the other bag to take its seeds as well. I placed them in an empty Red Bull energy shot bottle with some warm water, and placed them under a LED light to germinate. In 24 hours, only 1 started to show any signs of popping open for a root, and at the time I was not aware that that was what I was looking for so I went ahead and placed them into a mixture of soil. I decided to go with 60% Miracle Grow Potting Mix and 40% Miracle Grow Perlite. I placed them under 3-4 26W CFL's, and the next morning I placed them outside to get some sun, little did I know it rained really hard while I was gone. After that, I kept them in my room under the same lights, but I took the middle one out and put in a 42W CFL, which I will be using for all of the lights soon. I never did test the PH, but I did buy some tests last night for later.

I literally gave up earlier this morning, even though it was only day 3 into the grow. I left the lights off this morning, I haven't hooked up my timer yet, and was going to just wait until I got the seeds I bought to start a grow. Then...I open up a beer, watch UFC 100, and go check on the plants for some odd reason.

WOW, 2 were growing, and another looked like it was trying! So...I turned the light back on:clap:

Basically, I'll be buying another quarter bag tomorrow night, I'm hoping because I haven't had any in nearly 3 days, and I'll try a few different things to do even better. I will try to see how far these will go, but I'm not going to worry about them since I'll be getting some that I ordered in a week or two I hope.

The third seed that I thought was going to try to grow has now started to open up more, so it looks like I will have at least 3 babies!

I don't know what I'm going to do though. If these start to grow well and everything is going good, should I get rid of them and start growing the seeds I paid for since they will be much better quality? I'm planning on moving soon, so I can't just keep growing right away, I basically have a 3 month limit, because once I move I'll be back to work where I'll be gone 2-3 weeks at a time when I do have to leave out.

I had my alarm set for 12 today, and I was planning on doing a few hours of sanding on my car and cleaning up my oh so messy room since I've been moving things around for my grow box I'll be building.

But...it didn't go off, and I woke up 4 hours late. Damn it to hell.

When I got up, the first thing I did was check on my plants. I was happy, because 2 more started to pop out! I swear, I thought you had to do so much to get these things to grow, and I even gave up on these and had the lights off for nearly a full day and they are still showing up.

Ironically, I believe the tallest one in the original picture is dead, because it has not sprouted any leaves and looks pretty brown. It also started to lean towards the light...but I don't know if it's dead or not. I'll get a closer look at it after I clean my room some, and take some pictures to put on here.

And hopefully tonight I'll have another quarter bag to germinate some more.

if you only have 3 months and have seeds en route i would guess you're going to have to flower them nearly from the start and the yield will be substantially less than if they had grown to maturity, some sativa's take in excess of 12 weeks just for their flowering phase

if you happened to order some type of ruderalis then you're all set and theyll be done in 10 weeks from seed

and as far as the lights they are perfect for the stage they're at now but when flowering youll want around 4000 lumens/sq ft and im not positive but i think those 26w cfls are right around like 1600 a piece

just some thoughts, good look amigo, welcome to the growers club

Well, I'll give a little update even though I can't do as much as I would like.

5 plants are now growing, all around 2-3 inches each. One of them...the one that was the biggest from the start, still hasn't sprouted any leaves yet...but it's getting taller and taller. My light fixture fell and broke the stems of 2 plants because my fucking brother was painting his room and knocked over a counter. I'm not sure if they will die or not...one looks like it is starting to stand back up.

I tried to take some pictures with my new camera...but I can't figure out how to take close up pictures yet...so they are all blurry. I'm trying to figure it out now so i can take some pictures. Some of the plants have drooping leaves, I'm going to search and see if that's because of the soil, lack or water, light, or what. I did put a little drop of Superthrive in the soil for each plant.

Oh, and I GOT MY CYBER CRYSTAL SEEDS IN! They are germinating right now, and I'll hopefully be planting them tomorrow night. MUUUUCH better care will be taken when these are in the grow box, and sadly school bills were a few hundred more than I had expected so the DVD grow box I was going to make will be on hold for at least another week.

Well, I had to tie EVERY plant up yesterday because they weren't standing up straight or leaning over badly.

I wasn't sure what the problem was. I would have assumed that it was stretching, but...I knew the lights were close enough for the plants...right around an inch.

Then...I started to transplant the best looking plant into a bigger cup because I wanted to feed it new soil and put it alone when I noticed that the roots just had no room to grow and support the plant.

So I transplanted them all into a coffee cup, one to a cup, and I'm going to let them sit under the lights for a day or two to get some root growth going so they can become healthy again.

I bought some Superthrive, and I put some of that in 3 of the plants. I forgot to mention, 2 of them are basically dead. One from the light fixture that fell because of my brother, the worst one actually started to grow nicely again, and the other was leaning too bad, too long and is past repair.

So right now, it looks like I have 1 really healthy plant, and 2 that just need a little time to grow roots to hold itself up. I'm only using 2 26W CFLs right now, and later tonight I'll be picking up some pots to plant the 3 plants in when they get a good root system going and to start the seeds I bought and germinating right now.

About that...I put all 10 seeds in a small energy shot bottle, and put it 75% full with a little warm water to germinate. That is the method I used for the other seeds and I know it works, so that is what I was going to try. I could tell that it was going to start working again, but I just did, about 20 minutes ago, take them out and use the paper towel method. I wet 2 towels, and put the seeds between them, placed it on a plate, and then placed the whole thing in a gallon zip lock bag. I blew some air in it so it can breath, zipped it up, and we'll see if they are ready to plant later tonight.

Oh, I don't think I mentioned this yet. I said, in an earlier post, that my first hope for a plant did not sprout any leaves yet, even though it was growing more than the others. Yesterday I was messing with the light fixture to make sure that it wouldn't fall again no matter what, when I saw the seed pop on open and the leaves sprouted. That made me happy:weed:
