So I started my first grow using sunlight, upgraded to 2x 42w CFLs for, like, a week, but I was about 2 or 3 into it by the time I acquired them, and came into some unbelievable luck when a family member gave me a 240w LED for veg and a 400w LED for grow, both being decent slightly old Lighthouse Hydro BlackStars. I am growing for personal consumption, specifically to deal with PTSD resulting from combat in Afghanistan, '09. I know I'm going to get shit on, but I am using MG 6-month-nute potting soil, tap water, and not much else. I have a feeling my plant is small, either because I started with sunlight and CFLs, or because of the strain. Despite being bagseed, I think it's got good genetics, or it seems to. Tell me what you think.

Also! For some reason, I can't start a grow journal yet. I'm guessing it's due to being a new member?

I also have Blueberry Skunk (Blueberry x Skunk #1, feminized) germinating as we speak, so I'll let you know how that goes. Day 2, so far, and it hasn't pushed a taproot just yet.

Your not gonna get beat up too bad for the mg, you are a respected member of the armed forces and we thank you for it...... I will however beat us up a little bit about that clear pot you are using though lol... Wrap that dude in some duc tape to block light from the roots, you have to allow for good drainage in cannabis plants, so you are gonna want something with holes in the bottom.... Now for your grow box, you need to get some air circulation in there, a gentle breeze will help strengthen that stem up and do wonders for mold prevention, do some reading on seedling growth and the veg stage and go from there....Happy growing, and again thanks for your service.....

P.s. loving the purple in that one, hope it's a gal!

I used my Kabar to carve 4 nailhead-sized holes into the bottom. It's an old critter keeper. Never really used it. As for the breeze, will the fans on my LEDs not be enough to push air around in it? And, thanks for the feedback, I truly appreciate it.

Leds are blowing air up, you want something to make the canopy shake a little, small clip fan or 2 in that area should work, you are gonna want to start thinking light leak proof before flower time though

Got it, thanks. I'll probably just put an actual tent up by the time it's time for flowering. I live off 1059 a month, so rent, then bills, then food, then whatever I need for the medicine. In any case, though, regarding the fan, I'll probably borrow one from a neighbor or family member or something. Anything else you see could use some work? And is this an alright size for a 3-4 week old veg'ing plant?

She looks fine, a little pale, but that could be any # of things and it's best not to jump to conclusions, any plant I've ran under led has vegged a little slow, but they did good in the end, how are you ph testing your water? Water ph is very important, pool boy test kits or strips can be bought for around 5$ and work well enough to get you started, and I fully understand a budget, but there are ways to get to a harvest on a low dime, the big money item is usually lights and you got em already.... As for a box there are tons of diy solutions out there, I like this one myself

And a lot of how a plant grows is in its genetics as well, both of these plants were dropped in cubes on the same day, both sprouted and were potted on 1/15/16 one is a critical rapido auto, a nice easy growing happy little indicia Dom the other an angry little hard to dial in a feed schedule little bitch of a photo period sativa dominant, obviously they grow at different rates

Sounds like I'm gonna have to get a PH kit when I get the timer. And I've heard some good things about autoflowering, but for now, bagseed aside, I have all gen 1s. Like, the Blueberry Skunk's a Gen 1 seed. And what lighting do you use? HIDs were not an option, because I can see my monthly pension disbursement evaporating just thinking about it, and my only other options had my family member not helped me out would have been CFLs or sun.

Oh! By the way, seeing as just about everyone in my residential building smokes, do you think I'll need to invest in ventilation, or do you think I'll be alright without it?

I use 2 300w blackstar leds and a 600w hps the leds are side mounted and the hps is overhead in a air cooled hood, as for the smell, that's your call, if it's legal where you are and your residents are trustworthy it's not a need, if that's not your situation, then the less who know about your hobbies the longer your hobby lasts

I suppose. Makes sense.

And, that's crazy that you use BlackStar, too! I wasn't sure how popular BlackStars are. Like I said, I got extremely lucky and a family member just up and gave them to me for nothing.

First time using them, I traded my galaxyhydros to a friend of mine for em, he liked my last run with those and I was planning on using hps this round anyways, but they seem cool, lots of reds and blues and I'm just hoping for a little crystal boost from them anyways, I like the yield of an hps grow, but there is something to be said about the quality of smoke under led

she looks a little small.. but its your first grow and shes still alive!.. good job so far.. your soil is pretty rough on it. MG comes pretty heavily nuted but.. give it time and she'll start perking up. get some more air flow going on in there and like the other dude said.. try to darken the tub around the soil. welcome to RIU, other then some tiny issues.. youre off to a good start dude

Are the roots photosensitive, or is it to conserve light energy? And, thank you very much for your input and compliment!

roots arent fans of light.. if they liked it theyd just grow out of the soil lol.. light slows down production, also light can help create mold or algae.. light in soil can create other organisms that are harmful

I was wrong, sorry, the bigger light is 500w and includes UVs. Bagseed opened up that purple set of leaves today, and the Blueberry Skunk pushed tap today.

What size container? Looks wide but not deep, why not a solo cup. Easy to transplant.
