Back in the saddle. 4x4 540watt Veg, 4x8 2300watt flower, led living soil

Here we go again after a brief hiatus.
This will be a run of 12 Top Dawg sour dub Diesel looking for a mother plant for long term production.
If I don't find anything special I'll breed any decent males I get to a decent female and look around the next generation. IMG_20211107_140100.jpgIMG_20211107_140051.jpgIMG_20211107_140023.jpg
Seeds were soaked in .3 peroxide for an hour and sown directly to happy frog soil.
We're running an ac affinity cloud series 4x4 for veg.
1. 400 watt szhlux bar style quantum board
2. Two 70 watt szhlux light bars
3. Vivosun 240 cfm 6 inch inline fan
4. Draft Stopper - Backflow Preventer - Inline Fan Vent - Vent Deflector (6'' Inch)X2
5. AC Infinity Air Carbon Filter 8" with Premium Australian Virgin Charcoal,
6. Taotronics cool mist humidifier
7. Two 6" genesis clip fans
The 4x8 is in development and being moved out to the garage for 240volt service
Later I hope to show the 8, 10 gallon living soil buckets and some cover crops started in prep for the new girls.

My light choices have always been a bit controversial and budget minded.
Google szhlux on Amazon, the 4000 model https://www.amazon.com/SZHLUX-Coverage-Spectrum-Hydroponic-Greenhouse/dp/B08MF2247G
I can attest to this reading 410 watts on the kilowatt device.
My other flower lights will be TMlappy https://www.ebay.com/itm/TMLAPY-COB...2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
These read at 540 watts each and will be seen in the flower tent later on.

The TMlappy light has proven itself in two grows so far, anihilating the gram per watt threshold. The szhlux is on its maiden voyage and we'll see if it stacks up.

Well let's see my last runs were: top dawgs sour bobby 12/12 popped.
Buddies Jack Herrer 11/12 popped.
Greenpoints copper chem ( my personal seed making stock) 11/12.
Serious seeds AK-47 12/12.
But here we sit with top Dawgs sour dub Diesel, 8/12?????
12 is my legal max
Lol for 250 dollars a pack there better be, "the mother of all keepers" with that crap, germ rate.
Not big on the whole runt thing either, guess I'm just spoiled.
Pinch hitting for the 4 failed Top dawg beans is some pua mana ohana, Kona gold beans I picked up 6 years Ago.
IMG_20211120_083341.jpgIMG_20211120_083349.jpg
Lol, if they pop then there's no excuses.
I've got two random auto freebies chilling with some sugar snap peas and carrots in some of my coots living soil experiment mix.
IMG_20211120_083354.jpgIMG_20211120_084430.jpg
They'll be left in the veg/mom tent to flower at 16/8 light reg.
I gotta admit those sour bobbies I got from that last run were super brutal and clones went out the door like crazy. So that can make up for some bean misfires
Those pics were lost before I started trusting the cloud unfortunately.

My seed collection is ageing and it's getting ridiculous trying to find well worked or even mediocre seed stock that isn't poly hybridized genetic soup. Hybrid vigor died a long time ago in this market.

Well the six year old pua mana ohana Kona gold seedlings came up 3 out of 4.
About the Same as the topdawg stuff so I'll call it decent and move on with life.

We got a bit root bound At two weeks accounting for the yellowing but we've perked right up after being unleashed upon a 10gallon bucket of coots mix with some local naturally occurring lava rocks at the bottom for drainage.
The fem autos are chilling on top in a 5gal coots mix with carrots and sugar snap peas.

The plan is to clone every one of these, boy or girl.
The boys will stay in this veg tent with the clones, and the girls will be moved to the flower tent in about two weeks.
A winner will be chosen out of the originals in final flower and it's clone will become the new mom.
IMG_20211129_182608.jpg
If none are worth keeping that's where any males that popped up come in.
I'll chuck Another generation assuming I get a male and start looking again.
So out of eight here's hoping bare minimum I get six fems and 2 males (statistically plausible) best case scenario it's 7 fems 1 male
The pua mana ohana's are a wild card but I'm hoping for 2 girls.
IMG_20211129_182541.jpg
I'll be running companion crops of basil, chamomile, coriander, and red clover( all well documented as enhancing the flavors and scents of the plants around them dramatically) once my girls get their feet and won't feel competed against.

3weeks
Pretty dang uniform.
The runt is smaller but they all look like clones off the same plant.
Looking at lineage, it's likely been inadvertently bred true.IMG_20211203_144343.jpgIMG_20211203_144347.jpgIMG_20211203_144353.jpgIMG_20211203_144409.jpgIMG_20211203_144359.jpg

Getting setup for the 4x8.
The garage thing didn't pan out so the 220v and 2000 watts isn't going to happen.
Between the two 400 actual Watt szhlux "4000" Chinese quantum strips and the 550 watt TMlappy Cob, I'm pulling close to 1300 watts which puts me at 40 watts per SQ ft.
I know watts per sqft isn't a great way to measure but I'm kinda "tech'd out" this year and don't feel like doing algebra.
This set of pics will put us at the middle of 7 weeks
There are 4 topdawg "sour dub diesel" females 4 males(cloned and killed) and 3 pua mana ohana, Kona gold females
I was hoping for 8 total fems but 7 will do.IMG_20220103_065844.jpgIMG_20220103_065942.jpgIMG_20220103_065930.jpgIMG_20220103_065922.jpgIMG_20220103_065953.jpg

Thats gonna be a full tent soon lol.

Well she's up and running after a defoliation and the culling of one last sourdub d, male that was so convincing as female that I took a clone.
All balls but 100% female structure.

named him pretty pretty princess from an anime

Flower will be interesting trying to fill out a 4x8 with six plants but doable.
20220105_125353.jpg20220105_125411.jpg20220105_125403.jpg
Ambient CO2 is pretty decent!
20220105_125440.jpg
I'll prove amazon lights can kick ass and do it with living soil.

Thats gonna be a full tent soon lol.
I hope so after finding that extra male.
I was mostly pushing to find mother's on this grow but my personal stash is low so production is somewhat of a priority lol.

Might have to buy a vape pen or two before it's over to get by.
I've been out of the game for a bit.

A third defoliation and I've tied em down, pinched the stem 2nd or 3rd node down on every branch tip.
Kinda like a light super crop to redirect auxins to the inner canopy while the limb damage heals.
20220109_134001.jpg20220109_134018.jpg
Evening out the canopy is about half done
16417675156974517012534370459395.jpg
I'll jocky them around untill I'm happy with the layout and bring in some net later on.
Theyve got 2 1/2 ft to grow before they hit the bulbs.
They've been in 12/12 for 6 days in week eight.
After this We're ready for the stretch16417680221685361208945475768716.jpg

We're in week nine total and week two of 12/12.
Today I'm seeing enough flower pistils to call this week one of flower.
I've HST all the unruly branches and lightly pinched all the stems at the last inch or so before the tip, to redirect auxins one more time, and put down netting to spread out the first layer of canopy.
20220115_101217.jpg
20220115_101232.jpg
My usual style is LST, with light defoliation, under COB lights, using sea of green (SOG), in supersoil supplemented with megacrop nutes if needed
20220115_101237.jpg
This is my first run utilizing high stress training, moderate/heavy defoliation, SCROG with netting, in modified nature's living soil, under quantum strips/cob, with cover crops.
20220115_101224.jpg
I am pH'ing my water to 6.5 as our well water is running at 5.5 with all the new rain and snowpack.
20220115_101307.jpg
I am adding a tsp of bio bizz biogrow, 1tbsp of algae, 1 tblsp of molasses, 1tblsp pure coconut water and 1 tbsp fresh blended aloe to each gallon of water to feed the soil a total of 9 gallons twice a week.
20220115_101215.jpg
For foliar it's a tsp of coconut water, a tsp of algae/kelp added to an alfalfa tea made from my cattle feed leftovers twice a day morning and noon.

We've added a 54watt reptisun UVa and UVb light 30 mins a day at noon and will be increasing to an hour starting at 30 mins before noon, and will likely add a second in the last three weeks.

I'm kinda keeping this journal for notes to look back on and as a test for these cheap amazon and ebay lights.(which are kicking ass by the way)

Good hunting!

Oh I forgot these are the sour dub diesel clones planted out of the octopot cloner (awesome tool)
20220115_105456.jpg

A killer male and all three females(I've already picked my favorite)
20220115_105452.jpg
This is my veg tent auto (for fun and good extra smoke) I think it's wautomellon/diesel???
20220115_105449.jpg
It gets nothing but reused soil and veg lighting but will probably produce some great backup stash level stuff.

Not to knock autos! I just don't have a lot of experience with them.

Week three of flower week 10 total.
Canopy is filling in and building up nicely20220123_130120.jpg20220123_130150.jpg20220123_130126.jpg

Week 4
Coots mix holding strong, no deficiencies no droop.
Buds are taking shape and showing their potential.
Red wrigglers are wiping out the leaf and kitchen scrap top dress.
Water/feed soil every 5 days about 1.5 gallons each until tray fills and then within an hour they drink that dry.
Runoff pH is 7 even, and water/feed is phd to 6.0
Reptisun UvA and uvB is on for 90 mins a day

First three are Kona gold and second three are sour dub diesel.

Oh and clear definition between the two cultivars, again three plants each sour dub Diesel and Kona goldIMG_20220201_165944.jpg

Looks good.
Definitely better than I expected with the way you sold the lights originally. But I shouldn't be surprised. I run some Amazon/chinese lm281b+ boards that people gave me shit about for getting, but they were cheap and grow some great bud.

Nice work. Keep it up.

Week 9 (possibly 10 because flip to 12/12 was Jan 5th)
Parting is such sweet sorrow.
Last look with lights on.
I'll shut the lights of but leave the uv a and uv b on timer until Saturday then cut.
I do this based on wives tales and bro science so don't take this as law.

My szhlux and tmlappy lights have passed muster and excelled at 1 successful grow.
I will post nug porn, yield, and gram per watt data in 14 to 20 days
The tmlappy puts off some heat so I'm leaning to szhlux.

Forget the elitist trash talk and pick one up.

Bridgelux chips on Chinese drivers but the best watt per dollar you'll get

400 actual watts 160.00
