Well i'm gonna be using iguana juice on my autos, I hear many good things about it (I'm an advanced nutrients lover :-P ). Overdrive however I dont believe is 100% organic, it says iy has "organic materials" in it along with other things. You could prob squeeze in some Motherearth super tea bloom, thats some good stuff, and can also be used as a foliar spray

http://www.advancednutrients.com/landing_pages/mother_earth_super_tea_bloom_landing.html

Thank you for that info, so If I choose to drop the overdrive I could opt to use something like the iguana juice or even say bat guano?

My journal is in my sig. Should be starting sometime next week I hope!

Well the iguana juice is your base nutrient, the overdrive is an additive one. You could use Iguana juice with or w/o the OD and you can use other additive ones, you can still use overdrive, might not be totaly organic but these days theres no real big difference between organic and chemical besides organic being more forgiving, it wont burn your plant as easy as chemical nutes.

OK, so you only give Grow Big one time at the end of week 1? It's still itty bitty ... with only a couple of leaves. I do have one at that stage right now. But I do have it in FF Happy Frog soil, so there are nutes. For my next batch, I'll use nute-free soil. But, when I get that, just give the GB one time? Or do you start at the end of week 1 and feed it till the plant shows sex? Because my larger plant, that is 3 weeks old and has had no other nutes but what is in the soil, has still not shown sex, but it is about a week behind the power curve. Should I juice it up w/some GB till it shows sex?

Also, I don't have anything to measure pH or PPM ... what do you use? And when I DO feed, do I feed till runoff or what? Especially when I'm feeding two different nutes ... how much of each to give?

So why would I have to toss what I already mixed if I'm going to be using all three anyway?

Thanks a TON!

hey melissa or melizzard...you may be a lil pissed, your gonna have to throw what you mixed already away....... to feed autos, first many would say "dont feed them anything for the first 3wks!", but IMHO for the "so called" veg stage, autos need N in the seedling/veggin stage using, "NUTE FREE SOIL" (this will help promote a lush green plant with benificial bacteria for better nutrient uptake in bloom..and autos love root stimulators, ie; voodoo juice, tarantula and phiranah these will give you an explosive root system).with that said you should only give grow big, (high in N) at the end of the first week..then if you want introduce the root stimulators go for it... (OF COURSE YOU KNOW TO WATER/FEED/WATER/FEED) when they show sex, you stop givin grow big and start the tiger bloom and big bloom, 1/4 strength of course to see how they respond....Flush every 10 days with molasses, and remeber to chk your PPM in water before feeding and PH in the run-off water
just my 2cents................................................

I guess this is where im confused but I think I got it... see I thought that you shouldnt feed the autoflowers during the first 1-3rd (just gonna use the organic soil) then start with the iguana stuff on the 3-4th week and when it starts to bud use either the bat guano or overdrive?

Hey mel, I used the same trio, I Used grow big and the organic stuff. I started after a week of solid growth, I too put it in gallon jugs, I put a table spoon of the organic in and half tablespoon of grow big in each (so not much). They loved it, I used it every other watering, I watered about every other day, I could always see the spurts of growth the day after nutes. Never had any problems with burn at all. after week three I used all of them for about a week, then went with tiger and grow big(you can certainly add the organic stuff its fairly weak). I can't remember how much i fed with each gallon of that though, if I can remember i'll post. I was growing easy ryder at the time. hope that helps a little. Shouldn't be a big deal to throw your mixes out, since theres not too much wasted really. but my answer would be yes, you can start giving autos nutes right away, Only some are sensitive, not all. Helping my buddy out with some autos right now, and got one thats around 9" at day 11, all in organic promix 2 gal pots ff nutes same watering schedule i mentioned earlier

Great! So I see that you only gave like 1tbsp or so at week 1, but how much did you give after week 3? I just fed my 3-week -old for the first time (before reading this post). She's in her full-sized pot already and I gave her 6 shot glasses of Grow Big and 6 of Big Bloom. The nutes began to run out the bottom and I did not let the runoff collect in the pan. Did I give too much for the first feeding???? :wall:

OMG NO!!!! ROFLMAO!!!! It was 1/4 strength mixed in a gallon of water!!!! And my shot glass has all those tsp/tbsp measures marked on it ... it's made for mixing nutes. :) But I didn't want to just water them straight from the jug because I wouldn't know how much I gave them. So I used the shot glass to have some form of measurement. :)

I can't remember exactly how much I mixed w/the water, but I used 1/4 of the FF recommendation.

So, did I still phuk up?

xxoo
Melissa

Not to scare you but that sounds like A LOT of nutes, was it mixed with water like you were talking about earlier? If Not then put some water in your pot right away. Do the same with the water and put it in till its running out the bottom like the nutes. If i'm hearing you right then you gave your plant a whole cup of nutes with no water for the first feeding, that sounds like overload to me. its not gonna hurt to flush most of the nutes out right now, I hope I understood you wrong melissa, this could get bad. but yes flush that soil out pretty good and (if you need to feed, then just water) for the next two to three days watch for burning, if none then get back on a good feeding schedule. Do your water mix in gal jugs like you said before, your on week 3 so maybe introduce your plant to a lil bit of tiger. If it was me in gal jugs i would do 1.5 tablespoon grow, .5 tablespoon tiger, and 1.5 tablespoons of big bloom. feed them something like that for your 3'rd week. after that you can up doses slightly as everyweek goes by, make sure to do a flush around week 6, after week 6 I stop grow big and focus more on the tiger, you can always feed with big bloom since its organic, but again does go nuts with it since you feed it that the whole life span, you can even bring the dose down after week 6 since your getting closer to harvest, (it won't be doing too much and just that much less if flush out). I'm really sorry i'm in a rush right now and need to hit the road, i'll check my riu when I get where i'm going and fill you in on any questions. Sorry for a sloppy answer, if others could help and correct anything I wrote wrong, then please do so. Oh yeah, if you don't have table spoons and teaspoons, then use a real spoon, the big ones are around a tablespoon. Not shot glasses haha. its ok we all phuk up

haha, no your fine. I knew it was too early in the day for me to be reading on here. My bad mel. but ya your fine, I don't measure how much in each pot, I wait til the pot is lighter then feed slow til the water comes out the bottom, I don't use saucers. Again sorry for not understanding, but at least I mentioned that i could be hearing you wrong my first post.

I have been following this thread for quite some time now... it has given me so many great ideas on how to grow these wonderful plants. Thank you all for your input, let's keep educating the world!
I am thinking about starting a small garden mostly for medical reasons... that and I cannot afford the high costs, even getting the "friend price" lol.
I have been doing some hardcore research on RIU and with a few helpful books, so you could say I have a strong foundation looking for some structure.
In recent years I have helped feed myself and a few family members with my green thumbs and a few veggie seeds.
I must say that I have fallen in love with playing in the dirt and growing beautiful veggies, flowers, and common house plants. When I heard about the challenges of growing cannabis I became very intrested.
The only problem I have having right now is getting started. I have enough money to buy a premade setup like the mini cool cab or cool caddy, but I'd much rather put one of my own together for a lot less.
I only want to do 3-6 autos, but I dont want to do a stealth pc grow. I was thinking of a 150w hps cool tube (but there is no such thing built commercially, smallest I can find is 250w) I dont want to do that many watts so I may just go with cfls. I already know the downside to cfls, but I'm willing to take that chance (I'm not looking to get published in HighTimes or anything lol. I just want to grow.)
If I build a box it will be a simple 2' w 2'l 4' h. I'm just not sure what light setup to go with. I know what I need to do to go big,:weed: I just need to know where to start building. :wall: Please help. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest a 2' x 2' T5 fixture. They put out decent lumens and produce a lot less heat than HID lighting. Then you can rig up your space to have some CFLs on the sides for additional lighting.

I personally own one of these....

GrowBright 2 Foot 8 Lamp High Output T5 With Choice of Bulbs
http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=50022

I ordered it from that site and got it quickly.

I have built a "veg box" to use it in.
Hope this helps.

Hey I'm also growing a dutch passion tundra! The smell is like none other! My caregiver grew it and it was some of the best smoke I've had in a while!

I have no idea how old she is, but by the looks of yours, maybe 7-8 weeks?

hey guys just finished up my 3rd grow. it was white widow done with a 400 hps and some cfls. i scroged it to get more coverage. fed the 4 widows 9and a power kush) using an ebb and flow system. now i am aware no where in here is mention to an auto flowering strain. will be, just filling ya in on my skill set i guess, novie.
things went ok, just ran into trouble when i figured out i would like to be able to shift plants around. more importantly growing this way made me 100%i want to run a perpetiual grow system. problem is i dont have room for mothers.
this brings me to thinking of working with autos. seems the logical next step right?
i want to breed a couple autos to produce a good amount of seeds to run with.
anybody have any strains in mind?
strains that feet the critiria? sog main cola plant at high volume that flower or finish rather speedy and most importantly, good smoke?
i will admit i know very little about breeding seeds. there is some info on here i have read thro but i will reread later ofcourse \. just looking for strains to think about.
i also read alot about roots and shit when i read the strain review done by the seedbank. ebb and flow would be fine right?
thanks in advance for any help i recieve. i been clicking thro alot of riu and reading a ton of stuff but i find direct questions can add to all that extra reading.

I've decided to go with the 250 watt 6" cooltube. How loud are the 220 cfm inline fans? I'd like to find something that is 2.0 scones or lower if I could. I'm probably dreaming tho.
I'm deff. going to be needing everyones help once I get this thing rolling. You all have had such amazing results, I cannot think of anyone better to ask kiss-ass

If its only a 250 then i would use come computer fans for the entire grow room, they are ultra quiet too. 220 cfm is gonna be way more then enough, but then again I don't know the size of ur grow room. give us a little more info. I got a pic somewhere of pc fans rigged for a 400w cooltube, would you like me to dig it up?

I should have worded my last post a bit different. I've seen a few different cool tube set ups, some where the light was right on the canopy, others where it was too hot and had to be raised a bit... I was wondering what cfm fan would cool a 250w HPS enough so I could drop my light right on the plants. I am planning on having a totally different set up for ventialtion in the cab itself. Or I may just go with a setu up that draws from the cab then out ( carbon filter-inline fan- cooltube ) rather than two seperate systems... what do yall think would be quieter?

Well with the 400w, 3 pc fans rigged up was enough to cool it enough so you could hold your hand on the glass of the cool tube, you would think with a 250w it would be more then enough, and as for the in and out method of cooling, I would go that route and do a separate in and out for air. pc fans can be a hassle but once you get to know how to use them efficiently, they make your room so much more quiet, which is what I believe you were looking for.

Your right quiet and cool is how a grow room should be :weed:
I know alot of people use the pc fans when cooling small areas but have you guys ever checked out "The Ice Box Chiller"?

Introducing the Ice Box Heat Exchanger 6 inch. Why someone didn't think of this sooner is amazing. Why replace your existing reflector to water cool your garden when you can add water cooling to your existing reflector? Well that is exactly what the Ice Box Heat Exchanger does.
Here's how it works:
The Ice Box design consists of a copper heat exchanger with a molded plastic housing. One side of the housing is designed to slip over a duct flange and the other side is designed to attach to your existing air ducting to run to an inline fan. Air from your room is pulled through your reflector just as it is now, and then over the Ice Box heat exchanger before exiting right back into the room. Cold water is circulated through the Ice Box, which is what draws the heat from the air before it exits back into your room.
To adequately cool the air flow from a 1000 watt bulb, the circulated water only needs to be 10 degrees cooler than the ambient temperature in your room. So if you want to maintain a room temperature of 75 degrees, your water temperature only needs to be 65 degrees.
To cool the water you would need 1/4 hp minimum water chiller per 1000 watt reflector-yes, chillers use energy but not as much energy as a/c! Remember how much more efficient water cooling is than air. If additional cooling is needed for hot environments the Ice Box Heat Exchanger itself can also be easily daisy chained for cooling power that is doubled, tripled, etc.
