Autoflower seedling/sprouting issue (Humboldt seed co) seeds

I got some autoflower seeds from the very reputable Humboldt seed co, Emerald Fire OG. So far I'm extremely disappointed. I'm decently experienced so I know how to germinate seeds. I also understand that not every seed sprouts. I tried germinating six seeds using the wet paper towel method and only three started to pop. Eight days had gone by and the others had not even opened in the slightest. Basically duds. A 50% success rate for such a reputable company, not so good. I waited until the roots sprouted about an inch before I planted it into some lightweight seed starter soil. So far so good for two of the seedlings. But the third seedling, the first two leaves popping out look as if they're way more tiny than they should be. The very tips of them also look white. Has anybody experienced this before? Is it worth keeping it? Should I just wait it out and see what happens? Photos attached of the tiny one and the other two normal ones for reference.

As far as seedlings- every seed sprouts on its own terms. You cannot do comparisons ( even from same seed batch ). I tend to avoid the paper towel method and use moistened rooters for seed starts.

Also no need to overthink some color issues. Plant as it grows will continue to make pigmentation and push more leaf sets.

Just let them find there way.

Agreed, we use root riot cubes, I Soak them before planting with water, mosquito bits, and myco. Rooter gets rung out so it's moist but not dripping. Seed goes in. Rooter goes into 6 pack on top of heat mat and have sprouts in a few days, roots out the bottom in 1 or 2 days typically.

Lightweight seed starter soil? Does this soil have any nutrients at all?
Yeah it's got nutrients in it, light. I like to use ocean forest soil during the vegetative state and I've noticed that It's a little too strong for a seedling to take right out of the germination stage. They get slightly burnt and stunted. It's like a human baby. Right out of the womb you don't want to start feeding a cheeseburgers and pizza, lol. You got to give it to Mom's milk a little bit, slowly work your way up to applesauce, etc. Photo attached of the soil that I use. Using this before transplanting into ocean forest has worked great in the past.

OP - you can also start a germination in a solo cup of mild / starter mix. Think “ sandbox “ for early germination starting - plant will begin to form a root mass THEN you can transplant into a more nute dense mix like ocean forest.

That's similar to how we do it. Mix of seed starter, little compost, little EWC, little soil. Rooting plug gets put into that and there they stay until I get unlazy and up pot them to 1 gal fabric pots. We like to use a clear up inside a red cup so we can easily check on roots and moisture level, but honestly once the roots fill in the cup you need to water 2 times a day.

I soak mine in straight water 12 hours then put cotton balls in solo cups with water. Lay the beans on the cotton balls and 24 to 48 hours .

Some strains, or sometimes just individual seeds, are sensitive to any nutrients during germination and early seedling stage. Why I switched to Black Gold. And it’s available even in grocery stores that have gardening supplies. Very affordable. Absolutely no nutes.

I thought black gold was composted cow shit?

heats mats are the key for me too. when it's cold, heat the soil and the seed will love it.

Interesting. I'll grab some from Ace down the street. For some reason I thought it was cow shit, and we have plenty of that.
i lived around cows a lot as a kid and teen. but i didn't know about shrooms back then. it was in southern ontario so i don't know if the magic would grow in our cow poop. poop is poop but heat is the key.

i'm going to ask my cousins if any of their teens go shroom hunting. i might have to visit more often if they do.

I'll grow mine in a sterile bin, instead of eating shit. To each their own though.
Poop loving shrooms grow great in a mix with ewc.

i tried to grow 3 times. 3 failures. i read, i bought the best stuff, but my green thumbs do not relate to shrooms. if offered the choice, i'd rather pick them off cow poop as an outdoor adventure/hike. i'm a city boy but spent a lot of time living the country life. poop washes off, smug doesn't.

Hey like I said to each their own
Puts a new look on the saying 'shit eating grin'
Growing shrooms is fairly simple depending on the strain, how old/viable the spores are and how clean you can do things. Pressure cooker is key. Making a sealed clean box with some Lysol spray before working also helps. One the spawn is inoculated, contamination isnt as big of an issue. Once a solid grain spawn is going you can do tissue culture which has less chance of contaminating. They even sell pre sterilized grain bags now with self healing injection ports. All you do is sterilize the needle, inject and shake. You can even buy premixed sterilized medium for diff types of mushrooms.
