Haven’t seem to find answers to this question but can autflowers start budding even while still under 18/6 light cycle? Or would it stunt?

Yes, that's the whole point of autoflowers. They will begin to flower based on genetics not light schedule.
You could have the lights on 24/0 and they will still flower.
