auto lighting?

my two autos are under 120w cfls for now. when my 250w hps hood gets here ill use that for one and use both cfls for the other. how high should the 250w hps be above one plant?

If you've got a hood (it's air-cooled, I'm assuming?) you can basically put it as close as you want. As far as I know you won't have any major issues with light bleaching from a 250w, so short of outright touching your plants I think you'd be good with your hood as close as you can get it.

Cool tube it or air cool hood it and your good to go. The more heat you can pull away from the light and protect the plants from touching the lamp or any hot surface then the closer you should be able to get your lamp with out any problems.

I have my 70w MH cooltubed and the plants are almost touching the tube and I don't have any problems and tbh I think they like the light being that close.

thanks, its not air cooled though. ill just have a fan blowing on it. here what it looks like..

Start at a foot and see how things go?

The hand test is pretty reliable too in my experience.
