So finally got around to setting up my two high light uv boards https://growlightsaustralia.com/product/double-high-light-and-heatsink-combo-350-450w-max/ . I got the 3000k- uv version with the individual heatsinks. I went with an hlg 185-48a driver since they will be in a 2x2.5ft tent. I currently am using a 4 cob light dimmed way down in there for veg. Not in the most ideal of situations, so not too keen on posting pictures at the moment, but have 4 plants under the cobs right now looking great. Going to hang this new light in the next few days and flip to flower. I'll post some pictures of the end result, granted we make it there, when the time comes.

So the boards are obviously wired in parallel to the 185-48a driver and I have it set to pull 150 watts from the wall via a cheap kill a watt brand meter. Does this seem to be a good starting point? I have the cobs set at right around 115 watts from wall and about 26 inches from tops. I'm hoping to run the boards a little closer, but will probably start it at about the same height and see how it goes. Any help/suggestions about hanging height and power to use in this 5 sq ft tent would be great.

I ran a test board in veg for almost six months without any issues. However, I don't use 24-hour cycles in veg: mine vary from 16-20 hours depending on how fast I want them to grow. It is worth noting that sunlight has a lot more UV in summer, and the DLI is also a lot higher in summer compared to the traditional autumn flowering season, so the small amount of UV and near-UV in the High Light boards is not an issue in veg.

How do you like plants structure in vegg with this spectrum? Indicas / sativas?

I got slightly faster growth than under the LM561C 5000K strips and didn't really notice much stretch in comparison. I grow mostly sativas, so I'm prepared for a bit of stretch anyway, but if you have good light levels in your veg chamber, I believe that helps with stretch more than spectrum. We've actually found 4000K to be the best veg spectrum in CRI80.

At the current settings, it's pretty marginal and may be OK for veg. This is what it should look like at 26" and 70W per board (150W at the wall):

If you dropped the lights to 18" at the same driver setting, it would be quite a bit better – there's really no need to hang the boards so high, as we normally suggest 16-18".

Once you hit flowering and turn the boards up as far as that driver will go, you will have a pretty even 800-1000+ PPFD across the tent. This is what the PAR map looks like at 120W per board. In reality, you will get about 100-105W per board with the HLG185H-48A (it should pull about 215-220W at the wall):

Here's what happens if you orientate the boards the other way, spread them a little, and drop them 2" to 16" above the canopy. Driver settings are the same (120W per board). At 105W per board, you'll probably lose 50 PPFD across the tent:

Hopefully this helps you visualise how the light spreads inside the tent.

Thank you very much, this is all perfect. I'll turn the lights up a bit before I hang them as I always tend to error on the lighter side with everything. Going to hold off a couple days before the flip, just top dressed the soil today so going to give that one more watering before i change it to 12/12. Hopefully I keep this soil going well and can show what these boards can do even in a new growers hands.

Possibly, but it would be some time away. The main reason is because there are a lot of strip options out there already. Strips have their place, but we like the boards for their ease of mounting and easy wiring. And they're not too far behind strips in terms of light spread either. In fact, if you covered your tent roof with boards like @Or_Gro, @Frank Cannon and others have done, you get better coverage than with strips.

no worries guys. im looking to light some racks so im thinking strips are probs best.

i'll more than likely grab some of your boards at some point though. catch ya then

we should file missing persons reports and put up signs, im starting to worry.
Since Or_gro bailed on us over at the other spot, we havent seen much of Frank or Prawn or Monkey it seems.

Its a shame, love those dudes.

Hey, I'm still here!

I've just been busy with life. Plus I'm letting @Grow Lights Australia answer all the High Light questions now. I've got a pretty cool grow going on at the moment, but it's a bit of a mess (jungle), as I got ambitious and planted some old Neville's Haze seeds and they've just taken over the entire tent. And I just did a big old thread about germing seeds over at the other place.

Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated! :bigjoint:
