ATTN soil growers, transplant questions! rockwool to 3 gallon pots...

when doing a 1 time transplant from a rockwool cube (clone) into a 3 gallon bucket with soil, how much water should i use for the first few waterings?

something tells me i should not give it a gallon of water like usual and only water a little bit around the stem, no need to water where the roots are not.....

please help i have never started in a big bucket like this before...

Well, roots develop better in more dry soil, they grow in to find water, but you do want to balance that out some imo. I like to keep them fairly hydrated during the transplant, than let it dry up a bit for root development, soon going to a regular water schedule, but it varies with the conditions, if it's real warm and non humid water will dry up faster.

yeah do not poor water just at the base of the stem because you want the roots to stretch out and not get all knotted up in one ball... i like to water in a circle around the plant a little farther out each time until its big and healthy enough to just dump tons of water
