gordon brown is shit at his job, it's true. why not sign the one that petitions him to resign.
of course one single petition with a few hundred signatures won't legalise it. it probably won't declassify it either. what it does is remind the government that there is support for our cause, and in a so-called democracy it is very difficult for the government to repeatedly ignore this type of support.
signing is a lot more effective than not doing anything at all. pro cannabis campaigning is far more effective than just smoking it and growing it behind closed doors.
it's also far easier to defend against the police or in a court of law.
putting anything in the public eye brings attention to it. attention and publicity are the key weapons in a society like ours. no matter who you vote for the government always get in, and the government only want to be re-elected. if they genuinely believe making certain changes will help that happen then they'll make the changes.
we cannot afford to resign ourselves to a life of crime. we must fight for our rights and beliefs. we must remind those who control our society of the mistakes they make. we must educate our opposition. we cannot let them forget that our subset of society is being wrongfully penalised.
the "god made grass" defense, or the "only god can judge me", will not stand up among our peers, no matter how truly 001 holds his beliefs.
it is simply not an option, in my eyes, to roll over and play dead. almost every law or statute which has been overturned in britain started out with a few people making a little bit of ruckus and grew over many years.
e.g. the repeal of section 28, the devolution in scotland and wales, the reduction of hereditary peers in the house of lords, the legal recognition of same sex partnerships, the vote for women, the vote for anyone who wasn't a land holder, the representation of the majoratitive working class instead of the aristocracy. there are many more but the point has been made
the point i'm making is, if we don't start making some noise then there's no hope for us. if we'd had great marches and demonstrations against the reclassification of cannabis then maybe it would have made a difference. signing this petition isn't magically going to fix everything in one go. it is just another link in a chain of many which will hopefully lead to the realisation of senses. but a chain is only as strong as its weakest link; please help make this link as strong as it can be.
