Attempting the First Grow

See how the plant stretches out its leaves, drinking happily. This what to look for when dialing in the environment. The only other thing id rec is adapting your nute strength to your transpiration: if you were dialed in on nutes before and now increase drinking youd need to dial down the nutes a touch to avoid that tip burn.
Yes! I can see the difference! It is quite amazing comparing a photo from July 7 to one on July 15. Dispite the damage the change is quite dramatic. It was my intention to ask you what you meant about the posture of the plant, what did you see that I'm blind to? However a picture comparison makes it abundantly clear as to what my blind spot was and what you meant as to posture. Now I understand completely. I am closly watching the plant on the right as it has consideably less tip burn to insure it dosen't increase.

I reduced the nutes immediately 7 days ago as, according to the growth recommendations of the seed supplier, I had increased them at week 6. At present I don't think it's a good idea to increase them to the week 7 levels as the directions also say to increase the watering amount by 200ml. To me that's adding more nutes by the volume of water, perhaps I'm wrong on this. They suggest a mixture of 9 to 14ml per gal. and I am at 10.5ml. I will consider adding more later but then again every week the level of watering is also increasing. The VPD is ranging from 1.2 to 1.4 with a 24 hour average of 1.29. Basically when the light is off the VPD lowers and increases with the light on. My LED grow light differently produces a considerable amount of heat raising the temperature in the tent up to 5 degrees F. Lighting at 90% is on 18 and off 6 and set to flowering array. Plants are auto flowering Sour diesel.

My plants and I most sincerely thank you for your acute observation and knowledgeable rescue from an epic impending disaster.

Excellent example with the photos. With posture im refering on how "perky" the plant looks which correlates with how much the plant is drinking: the more errect and standing up the leves and everything is the more its drinking.
With nute strength: if you do changes to ur environment which means the plant is transpiring more then keep an eye out for signs of over feeding: when the plant transpires more it also takes up more nutes, even of nute concentration remains the same in your feed water.

I have not increased the nutes since July 4. Shortly after posting my last reply I decided to reduce the nutes for a few days and then return to my current level. (I have not do so yet) I am far below the recommended levels. You said exactly what I was thinking, the plants are drinking more therefore getting more nutes. In addition I have increased the amount of watering since July 4 which means even more nutes, I think???

Is this a good idea or should I wait and see if there is a increase in the signs of nute burn before making any further changes?

I also read that the leaves that have been damaged will die and should be removed to avoid bud rot. Should I remove them now or wait?

Do you have any recommendations as to a brand of nutrients to use for auto flowering plants? (For my next grow in September.)

Thanks for your help.

Get a good ec/ph pen to measure input and runoff, take the guess work out of it.
For nutes and led i lean more towards hydro nutes than organic.

I enjoy hearing stories about the old days and guerilla farming. You had to be passionate about Mary J to grow in those days. Which strain do you have in there? Even despite the slight burn, the plants are looking good.

They are Auto Flower Sour Diesel. "Looking good" is music to my ears, Thanks. Gorilla farming made my back hurt. This new method makes my head hurt. So much to learn and things happen, like the burn, pretty fast. My biggest problem is I don't know what I don't know.

I could only imagine how difficult it was. When you mentioned hauling water around...that was something I never even considered. I can see why your back hurt lol

Once you have your system down, it will be all good :bigjoint:

I have stories of Gorilla farming that cover the 15 years I lived off grid in the mountains. Back then it was worth the effort for many more reasons then just getting a nice buzz after a day of busting your butt, off grid living isn't easy. It was an excellent tool for barter for example, but never cash. The equipment needed to farm was simple, shovel, 5 gal buckets, compost, chicken wire painted flat black and decent foot wear. Oh course you had to figure out where to put them which was the most difficult thing to do as they needed sun and sun meant open sky where the choppers live, they were the biggest enemy I had to deal with. No matter my complaining, truth is, I really enjoyed all of it including being off grid. It gave me quite the feeling of independence that I have never experienced since.

I am looking forward to the days when "it will be all good."

According to the instructions on my nutrients. I reduced them 3 days ago to 7.5ml/gal from 10ml/gal.
I am quite confused by the readings I'm getting for EC and TDS. I am trying to determine the best value for ppm and EC or TDS. It's all becoming clear as mud in my head. Obviously all this is new to me.

Device is a K18 TDS tester.
The current reading of my nutrients: ppm = 382 and us/cm = 814
I have read so many articles some tell me this is bad and some say it's OK. I decided to ask the experts here.

VPD High=1.4 Low=1.1 Average=1.3 over 7 days.

Age of plants = 8 weeks 3 days.
I consider my plants to be in mid flowering stage, but what do I know. (see Photos) Your help with identifying the stage of growth and what my ppm and us/cm readings should be will be greatly appreciated. While both plants were started at the same time plant 2 is lagging behind and did from the start. Nute burn is from the past.

Thanks.
