attaching power surge to pc case

im guessing duck tape would be bad?
I've got a couple. But best bet would be to upload a pic of the PC case so we could get a visual idea of what you are asking about.
1) An adhesive cement. Sold at various hardware stores. Most times it comes in a small tube. Putty like substance that you mush around and then place it to the back of the power strip and the case. It's permanent though, shit doesn't come apart.
2) Wire tie it somehow? If vertically maybe there are some holes you could wrap it through.
3) Take the putty I talked about and bond 2 fairly strong magnets to the back of the power strip. Boom!! if it is a magnetic case. If not just place 2 magnets on the outside of the case to "pinch" the case between them. I would recommend strong magnets as you don't want your power strip falling down.

The magnet method Austin420 mentioned would probably be ya best best, leaves it adjustable then.
The super strong magnets are the "Neodymium" type or rare earth magnets is another name for em.
You can find them at radioshack and stores like that or bust open half dozen old computer hard drives, they have them in them too.
A bit of experimenting will determine how many magnets you'll need, also just when you think you have enough, add one or two more to be safe. Last thing you want is the power board and lights letting go and squashing ya plants!
I wouldn't recommended duct tape as when it warms up, the sticky stuff will go all gooey and drop off.

The back of most power surges are "holes" to be mounted on screws to a wall. My first pc design i had drilled four sets of two screws to the back door (the door that exposes the motherboard tray) so i could adjust the level of the light by simply moving it up or down the set of screws.

If you don't have any way to mount it on the side of the case you could run some plumbers tape from the front to the back of the case, then bolt/zip tie the power strip to the plumbers tape.
Make sure it's good and tight or it will tilt foreward. If it tilts over too much you could shim it at the bottom.
