Ashes to ashes

So I was wondering. I have a fire pit in my back yard and occasionally burn dead branches and leaves and paper. Think I could top my soil off with some of the ashes and it would help my grow any?

Well not sure if ashes have any nutritional value, but I do know (from my parents) that people used to spead ashes in their garden, the reason being was to make bugs "think" that there was a fire close by and they would move. Not to sure how accurate that iinfo is but never know :bigjoint:

Now in places (in spots in Africa) I saw a vid from greenhouse seeds where the people used charcoal as fert. I believe its a source of nitrogen not ure though.

NO! I would not recommend this at all. It will screw up your pH. I've heard some people use wood ash as a pH buffer, but I wouldn't. That's why they sell pH up and pH down at the grow stores... Just randomly spreading ash on your soil is NOT a good idea, brutha...

Ok just wasn't sure. Cause like way back when, farmers would burn their remaining crops and let the ashes sit there till next year to replenish the nutrients in the soil, so I figured it might have somewhat of the same affect

ash can be a great nute, within reason, and as a prior poster mentioned you must watch ph carefully
if it is just plant ash, that is good base material
but paper may have other crap in it, just nature's raw materials are what you want
it's an excellent source of potassium, but a little goes a long ways

does anyone know if the ashes off my joint will help at all?

and dont ever put paper in there the ink in the ashes is all bad for you plant, and cigerette had chemiacals in them that can harm you plant so i doubt that you would want to use them either

small amounts will raise your ph, wood ash is alkaline, but it does contain nutrients at different levels depending on what was burned.
