On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a pure Capitalist and 10 being a pure Socialist, Where do you place yourself?

I think capitalist and socialist are misleading because there are so many different flavors of each.

For instance, I could say I'm a capitalist but what I might mean is that I'm a State Capitalist, which actually sounds a lot like communism:

State capitalism consists of state ownership of the means of production within a state. The debate between proponents of private versus state capitalism is centered around questions of managerial efficacy, productive efficiency, and fair distribution of wealth.
Or I could say I'm a socialist, but what I really mean is I'm a libertarian socialist, which would eliminates the state bureaucracies altogether.

Libertarian socialism (sometimes called social anarchism,[SUP][1][/SUP][SUP][2][/SUP] and sometimes left libertarianism)[SUP][3][/SUP][SUP][4][/SUP] is a group of political philosophies that promote a non-hierarchical, non-bureaucratic society without private property in the means of production. Libertarian socialists believe in converting present-day privateproductive property into the commons or public goods, while retaining respect for personal property[SUP][5][/SUP].

A lot of people in this country are benefitting from socialist ideas and don't even know it. Ie: public schools, welfare, free health care, etc. Putting yourself into a broad spectrum of political/social/economic beliefs is just plain dumb.

I wouldn't call that benefiting.

I agree, but did you mean to say putting yourself into a "narrow" spectrum instead of a "broad" spectrum?

Generally, I want the federal government to stay out of my biz, but I'm not so rigid that I would get rid of social security or medicare. Being an outdoorsy type of guy, I also want to minimize pollution so I don't have a problem with the EPA as long as it's not used as some kind of corporate tool that picks winners and losers.

Marxism falls under the umbrella of Socialism. As a Marxist, you should know this already.

Marxism/Communism/Socialism all have the same beliefs and are linked together. Just as Muslims/Christians/Jews pray to the same God, but have different traditions. (not to get into religion)

I voted 10.

Even if there is like, too many branches and sub branches of socialism (and capitalism) for this 1-10 thing to make any since.

For instance, National Socialism. Not my thing really.

Communism and Marxism are both forms of Socialism.

Read a book.

EDIT:Also, they do not inherently "all have the same beliefs", Communism and Marxism I mean.

Exactly my point! Try reading The Communist Manifesto by Marx. He even explained how the different sects of communism are causing its collapse. Which effects us, do this day. What do you think all the Occupy protests where for?!

I fail to see where that was your point.
