Beautiful cab man. Great minds must think alike because I built one very similar with the same ideas and they were my own.
It's 20"x2'x4' tall with about a 6" cubby at the top and the bottom is maybe 4" off the floor. I cut a hole for a very powerful 120 volt PC fan in back of the cubby, that plugs directly into a regular outlet. It draws air out of the cabinet. Air is drawn in through holes in the bottom and lower back. The cubby also holds my timer/power strip and other odds n ends. Though my top has hinges and lifts up, with a prop to hold it. And it doesn't look like a dresser, it has a door that opens and closes in the front. But, feature wise ours are very similar.
Heat! Yeah I hear ya. I started out using CFL and it puts out way too much heat. I have actually never finished a grow inside the cab with the door closed. It was a fun project and i don't really need it anymore. CFL actually grows great plants, tho the heat issues plus they are fragile and all the sockets, chords and plugs deter me from thinking it is a good method to use them.
Tips. Get rid of the CFL. You can build a COB led, up to maybe 300 Watts for less than $200. I've actually got a plan to build one for well under $100, at around 150 watts. I'm a COB noob tho so I would suggest you find
@CobKits thread in the LED light section. There are some serious fart smellers over there with the experience to guide you. And it looks pretty cheap and easy to be honest. Edit. Meant smart fellers.
Another tip. Use your lights on the side. Pointed down at like a 45 degree angle to the plants. Turn your plants 1/3 turn every day. Gives you more headroom. Also, stick to short indica doms. Or be prepared to train anything sativa. They get very tall. OR, if you build a single powerful COB. Consider putting it in the cubby where you already have the hole. It will save you some head space.
Also I concur with maybe putting some PC fans in the vent holes in the back.
Anyway man, my cab was kind of more of an experiment. I stained it and all that so, it does look like an odd piece of furniture. Until you turn it on lol. It is not sealed and lights up like a Star Wars space ship with my Blurple coming out of it. lol. I use a combo of 150 HPS and Mars type Blurple LED that does ok now. Too much for the cab anymore though.
Great build man and look up that thread. Ask questions.
@CobKits sells the stuff you want as well. cobkits.com. He and others can help you out and it seems(because I haven't actually done it yet) really easy and cheaper than you would think to just build one. And most of the ballasts are dimmable. Win win.
