I don't mean to b e a dick but I think you mean High Intensity Discharge - as in HID lamps like Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium? These are great if space and heat removal are no issue to you. They are expensive to run but they are also the proven norm for indoor growing.
Save up money, buy something awesome - for the price you would get for your surplus alone you will make back your money first grow.

yeah he meant high intensity discharge lol he was probably baked. yeah i've not had any LED grows myself but i can highly recommend HPS for flowering indoors. maybe look into a 150watt ballast (they even make 75 watt ones now i think too) just like a smaller one to start. i got two 150watters on amazon for $150 so they're kind of a large initial investment but i'd say go for it if you want to grow big, frosty buds. may not be ideal for cab/stealth grows though, as stated they get pretty hot.

first off i didn't buy an LED light it was given to me so I thought I would try it out to save on electricity and it was a top of the line LED light my buddy got popped and gave a lot of his gear to me. So think before you speak alex281

How about you think before you speak, because I wasn't even talking to you. By piece of shit I meant the light that was linked. Why don't you tell us what light you used then maybe someone else will come chime in since I only have experience with vipar. That other light linked isn't considered an led grow light to me.

Well, since you own it you can use it but supplement with either warm white cfls or low watt led bulbs.
It can be used as a cool mood light in your living space, and/or to grow herbs like wheat grass, basil, oregano, tarragon... note basil in the left corner

Hehe, when i Watched it I was all like "holy shit they look for vents!" that totally changed my mind about HID lamps. If you are rural then no problem but if not and if you can't access a sewer (how cool was that advice!) then temps are going to be an issue. Personally I like my home pre-charred and I worry so there is no way I will have an HID in here, I only wish I was richer so I could afford one of the rocking LED systems that are available. I chose the DIY route - gimme 6 months and I'll have stuff to report but there is no guarantee.

Those little red blue panels generally blow, although when combined with a few 6500k T-5s you can make a solid little veg cabinet. I bought them a few months ago, because I wanted something low wattage to make a "young veg" room. I like them for how I use them, but I would never ever consider them a replacement to decent lighting. If you only use red and blue your anthocyanin levels will be off the charts, not necessarily a good thing, but if you add in full spectrum light the chloroplasts can then use more midband nm to produce energy.
Honestly though, white leds have come a long way. Last winter Cree introduced a line of day white lights that release about 135lumens/watt, just over 140lumens/watt at under 25'c, this spring Bridgelux also released a line of lights getting 135lumens/watt. The power is there, we used HIDs for 40 years, you can be damn sure that it took a while to iron out the kinks, and leds will be no different.
Recently a lot of manufacturers started upping the quality of their housing to improve efficiency. http://phys.org/news/2012-09-packaging-technology.html#ajTabs
I'm guessing that within 5 years leds will perform to the same standards as HID lighting, I think some would argue that we have reached that point. Area 51 seems to know their shit, they have people invested in our industry, and they seem like they will adopt new technology as it comes out. They are the only company that I have considered buying lights from in recent days, but I'm a poor plant loving bastard. Really great responses to all my inquiry about their light systems. I know you are in the UK, but I would look for a company that has the latest and greatest tech. Those shitty panels are very similar to the leds used in the original Nasa experiments.
Pioneers clear the trail, settlers tame the land. Right now we are pioneering leds, they just haven't settled yet. But the first covered wagons are moving towards manifest destiny.
