The best thing to do is learn a trade. I'm a machinist and make a high 5 figure salary. The repair and maintainance industry is always looking for qualified people.
Are they? Last I checked they were paying people off lol

Another one is to open a TFSA (Tax Free Savings Account). That way you gain interest from savings account and its already been taxed thus no need to clam it out on income tax. And depending on the bank you can get around 1.15% to even 1.50% so even on $10 you will get around $0.12 interest per year to even $0.15 interest per year.

Honestly move to another country. In Australia you can get ANY job and it pays very well if you work in the mines you can easily make 100k a year Australian.I know you have a family and your settled etc but here is the harsh fact if you have mouths to feed that's on you and if you cant afford to feed those mouths stop having kids. Honestly not wanting to be mean dude but if your poor having more children is NOT the answer children are a privilege not a right. yet so many people still have kids and it fucks the world so bad

I agree with shade,I see so many people with so many kids that they cant afford them and then the state ends up paying for it,Im not saying your on welfare dude but I know to many that are and the state makes it easy for them, food stamps, paid or low income housing, free heat etc. heres a tip get yourself a job and go to school at night,I sugest welding theres a demand for welders and the money is good and it isnt hard to learn you can get certifyed in 6 months at most schools, its a proven fact that more welders retire every year than get into the feild.good luck tho

I'm 24 years old...one month ago I was FED UP making $10/hour, barely getting by, living with my parents, etc...

so I drove to the oilfields of North Dakota, only 2,100 miles away...slept in my car for 3 weeks, and got a job with an oil company

I now make $100,000 per year and recieve free company housing & health insurance. My expenses are food and gas- that's it. I just got my first paycheck for 8 days of work- $2,600

Trust me I was just as hopeless as many people still are...but there IS a way (not saying we don't still need to rebel against this corrupt global banking system though)

I am 63. I never bought into the whole SS/401K. After a failed start up, I went into real estate 25 years ago. I used some of that money to start Vitality Science, an online all-natural pet remedy company. All the people I grew up with, who went to work for large companies (retirement and health benefits), will probably never see them. Their productive years are pretty much behind them. Thankfully, we are moving out of this dependency paradigm and beginning to embrace our ability to create what we need as we need it

Yes its easy to said go to college and uni and get a better education to get a better job but you never think about people who can't handle the stuff your talking about for higher stress environment and there are people that were never book smart and never will be no matter how hard they try because their brains wasn't made to think like that. Everyone is different and what people CAN DO/ CAN HANDLE may not be what others can do / can handle.

I am currently 29 about to turn 30 at the end of this year. Myself as well as 90% of my colleagues rent, have no benefits, no pension and no savings. I was hoping by 30 to be debt free, but now I am looking at 40.

I still want to buy a house, have savings and a pension, but it seems impossible considering my line of work is all contract and I dont have the money to switch professions.

The thing is, everyone I work with is in the exact same boat and some older than I am. So are we all screwed when we get older? Am I doomed to greet people at walmart and live in a small apartment my whole life?
It's not hopeless. I'm 32 and most of my friends have good jobs with benefits. The way I see it there is always good work for talented people. And if you aren't talented at anything... start leaning and practicing now.

Also there is a lot to be said for attitude. I'm not trying to knock you in any way, so please don't read it like that. But... if you ask questions like 'am I going to be doomed to greeting people at walmart and live in a small apartment my whole life' the answer is most likely yes. Better questions to ask are 'will my next job be the dream job I've always been waiting for' or 'I wonder how it is that I will make enough money to save and buy a house'. And I don't mean asking questions on RIU, but rather what is floating around up there in yo head.

Much luck to you.

same here, worked out alright for me also

OMG this is my biggest fear. I think about the same thing. Everyone I know is in their late 20s early 30s struggling as hell with no savings and nothing to really show for it. Even though they have education and "real" jobs. Still ends up that way.

Do you drive or get driven by a vehicle? Is your home heated? Do you use plastics everyday of your life?

Ya know I really don't mind tree huggers...it's just the hypocritical ones that piss me off
Do you get offended easily?

I used to hear about people going off to Alaska to fish 20 years ago (from so cal where I am) for a couple months at a time and earn a shit load of money. I don't hear about it anymore. I think that's all POBP was saying.
