I was planning on getting a 400 watt mh/hps switchable system, mh for veg and hps for flowering. Are they any good? Are there any negative things about them? Are they worth it or not? Thanks

no not good at all. growing with metal halide for veg then switching to hps for flower. why would plants like that?

yes, its worth it in my opinion. check out the agro star or cool star models. worth the couple extra bucks. no reason to cheap out if youre gonna buy a light.
also, sorry about the sarcasm on last post. just having one of those days.

?? Spectrum for different growth stages? A baby mammal, drinks milk, then after a while switches to other foods.

Switchable is great IF you have a grow style for it. That would be a single grow room. Start a seed/clone, veg it under the MH, then flower it under the HPS.

Others prefer to have 2 rooms going. Veg room with floros (or second ballast running MH), and flowering with HPS. So switchable is pointless. This keeps a semi-constant harvest going.

Figure out your style.
