Are some Strains More Budworm resistant and prone?

I have seen this for the last 2 grows with my Bubba Kush.. (could be cause the buds are more dense.. but wanted thoughts)

Ok the Bubba's appear to me to have more of a attraction for budworms vs Orange Crush.. (less dense nugs)

I am thinking the effers like to hide out in the denser nugs and avoid my tortures.. and I mainly will see them towards the top collas rather then the lower airy ones as well.


anyone know exactly what brings these moths to my yard? I never see them on any of my other plants veggies or fruit or flowers..

(not looking for how to get rid of them... it's not that bad of an issue... )

It's just a bad year for budworms. I've never seen anything like it. All around the state everyone I know is having the same issue. I think it's the weather.

No, there aren't budworm resistant strains. There are systemic treatments you can put on your plants (in veg only, too late now) that will make them less of an attractive target. Other than that there isn't a whole lot you can do as far as I know.

Caterpillars (e.g. hornworm, budworm, etc) hide during the day, but you can catch them at dusk. Hand picking them and using a strong hose with a jet spray attachment is your best method of control. Sometimes you can spray BT, but in order for it to work they need to eat it. Caterpillars are resistant to most insecticides, so spraying neem and most garden insecticides will do little to nothing to control the problem. To make matters worse, they seem to attack the pistols and go deep into the buds where it's harder to spray BT. Shaking the plants at dusk will usually scare them and make them jump off the plant and hide in the soil.

I go out to my garden every evening to pick through my sticky buds to find these little guys. No matter how much you find there are always more hatching and eating through all my hard work.
Gioua it does seem that they definitely favor some strains over others and they like the thicker buds so they can burrow deep into them to much your ganj and shit all in your nugs. I noticed a little bit of bud rot on the top of a cola the other day and I plucked it off to find a worm inside the very top of this really thick nug. Luckily he hadn't been working his way up and he happened to hatch at the top but it's still so frustrating. Ill definitely be spraying bt in veg next season.
I had a mantis in the garden for a while and i would set the worms on the leaf in front of him and watch him go to work but he took off so I've been having to squish them by hand.

Bud worms in ivanhoe are everywhere! The plants I have in visalia are not getting hit at all until yesterday my little brother checked em n found a couple.... Just gotta keep checking by hand man...

some people use screen houses to keep them out...
no budworms here....just mold
